Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yeah that's why I got the Security Lockout program - although that doesn't help you guys with your speshul cat-backs, exhausts and intercoolers

Where do you plan on getting the 15k service done ?

If I can help it my R will never see the inside of a dealership. I prefer to talk to the mechanic that is working on my car. I am so over giving detailed instructions as to issues to the front desk assistant only to have the info not make it to the form or my detailed breifing being summarised to a few words so that the pimply 1st yr apprentice has no idea as to what the issue is. As long a VW parts are used and service book followed, warranty will be ok (ok the APR upgrades may cause issues but so be it - I am enjoying the upgrade too much to care and I am trusting that APR have done enough development so that the tune is not just 100% performance but also allows for some mechanical sympathy on the car).
As to who will service, I am going to use Autowerks at Charmhaven. They are the local APR dealer and the guy specalises in Porsches but services many VW, and Audis. In fact his two mechanics both came from the Central Coast VW dealer.Golf R 5 Door DSG, Rising Blue, 19" Wheels (Silver), Leather, MDI, RVC, Bluetooth, RNS510, APR Stage 2, APR Divorced DP, APR HPFP, VW Racing CAI, S2T Paddle Shifters, Sprint Booster

Dragging up old posts...
But, I'm a 4 time subaru owner.
a wrx, a forester, an STI and now the wife has an Outback Diesel.
No, none of them were pretty cars (Although I think the GT Liberty was a nice car in the previous Gen), and none of them were at cutting edge in terms of luxury and materials for interior.
But they were all robust and did things that cars I think are simply not meant to.
My WRX was running 21PSI peak boost, the STI was running 200ATW kw's (that's all 4 wheels) and both were driven hard up until the day they were sold. Comfortable they were not, but reliable/ definitely. tack day on a sat/sunday, and back in traffic to work on the monday.
The Outback is running a DTUK performance box and pulls like a train. tows like you wouldn't believe, picking up cars in the bottom of paddocks and pulling them and the tandem trailer out with aplomb.. all on 7L/100Km's about town and heaps of power. but no comfort. sure it has leather, roof and sat nav, but they're token bits and bobs, and doesn't seem integrated
But we've come full circle.. and I drive a GTI, and that's about to be replaced with an R, and the wife's Outback about to be replaced with a Passat 125TDI wagon.
Maybe i've mellowed, indeed I must have, as the power is no longer important as what it's like in the cabin for me.. sure it has to have grunt.. but it has to be refined, and a comfortable place to sit in as I leave work in business attire, and spend most of the commute in traffic. I now see what I couldnt see when I had the STI.. why would anyone buy the golf when the subaru is faster??? (by the way, a rodeo space cab ute, astra wagon, and Saab Twin turbo all came between the STI and teh GTI in terms of timeline of ownership)
interestingly, i drove an SSV.. and yes, it has heaps of grunt.. indeed too much to keep my licence intact... and in manual form it is simply too insane... and that can be had for a lot less than an R.... but.. for me, I'll take the nice, supportive leather, and the integrated systems that the VW has...
OH, and to save me scratching through 419 pages of posts, just wanted to know...
does the MY12 R have rear tint as standard????
and will my cargo tray (hard plastic) from the MY10 GTI fit? as I see no accessory listed for this in the brochure for the R!
the VW's are nowhere near as raw as the STI was.. but at least I'll still be happy in traffic obeying the posted signs...More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....
