Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • Whats everyones thoughts on this? Seriously thinking of getting one for the R...

      • I saw this when VW Racing UK actually released it. And within a few days there were people talking about issues with running it. It replaces the MAF pipe and socket, and the R is sensitive to it. I didn't follow it through to resolution of their issues cause there seemed to be some questions about how much testing it actually got for release, and so I just wrote it off... (I was interested in the APR one they were developing anyway, as I think you were from memory). The reason the APR one is "on hold" is exactly that same reason... sensitivity of the R once you change the MAF pipe. GIAC with their Extreme tune are mandating the VF intake and have developed the tune based solely around that.

Anyway... if you were interested in it, I'd be finding threads with people already running it for a while to see how they're going.
From that thread, it looks like Forge are finally going to release a TwinTake for the R... Being Forge, it should have had some decent amount of testing too. Maybe that'll be another option?

        • Unless that is a stock photo and not the kit for the R it appears that the DV return is actually before the MAF which would really cause issues. I've seen some info about the Forge one on vortex and they are claiming 17hp gain on a stg2 R.

          • Hmmm thats not too good, I did try and find some info from people who have run it in the UK but had no luck, don't suppose you have any linkage?

            Cheers

              • I've also been looking at a new intake, and will probably wait for the forge to be released. I was keen to get the 42dd catch can first. What would the chances be to fit it with the twin take?

Looks good but as mentioned, you'll need a tune to suit.

Is the Carbonio.... Edit: Didn't realise it was a panel style still. Wonder when the next one is due, saw photos somewhere... Don't like the non enclosed type pods.

                  • I'm pretty sure it's got a foam pod ala ITG maxogen inside the aluminium canister.

I really can't find the thread I was looking at a few months ago. This product is so new it's not even on the Volkswagen Racing UK site yet. So given that it's THIS new, either I've confused this with another product, or it was people having trouble whilst testing this product... which isn't too much of a surprise considering the troubles people have with other intakes which replace the MAF pipe and are which are actually released and still on the market! So apologies if I've given anyone a bum steer here.

                      • Oh well doesn't matter, based on some info from Guy regarding some issues with APR tunes and replacing the MAF housing I've decided to go the GruppeM route (not the most cost effective option but anyway). Ordered it yesterday so probably be a while till I get it though.

Then it can join my growing pile of parts I've already got my H&R sways & lakin plates and have some Adams rotors (Sport II's) on the way. Gonna order the Unibrace and intercooler next month too.

                        • Anyone had issues with the car alarm going off for no apparent reason?
Several times i've had the alarm go off while the car is parked outside the office. All windows are up and the car is locked so there shouldn't be anything to set it off.

                          • The car has internal motion detection, but also has tilt sensing. As in, being tilted and driven away on a tow truck etc. It's not that sensitive. HOWEVER, some multi-level parking garages have an unbelievable amount of "flex" and the concrete literally bounces as other cars drive past. You don't notice it when driving along it yourself, just when you sit in your parked car and have another one drive by. That's the only thing I could think of...

                            • Yep - ive had to disable the internal sensors because they trigger the alarm to go off for no reason what so ever. There is a button on the panel just under the driver seat belt where you can disable the inside sensors. I have to book it in to get looked at under warranty.

                              • Has anyone fitted a HoldMyPhone iPhone holder (Clicon) to the center airvent

I have a modified unit on my MKV

Want to know if it will fit

How well does the holder attach to the vent in the R as the moulding spacing seems much tighter ?
