Just over 3,500km on my R DSG now. I have spent some $$$$ on it:
APR stage 1
The stage 1 ECU upgrade is by far the best thing I have done, not because it is now faster, but because it now drives in D like it should have. The "flakyness" is gone and it changes where it should.
Hopefully when us Perth boys have our next GTG you can come along, very interested to see the stage 1 results first hand.
I'm guessing you had the tune done at Quattro Motors? How were they?

Na I won't deal with chatswood, I spoke to chatswood on the phone very rude, I think I spoke to a guy named Henry, but I hear good thing abt that place so I'm a bit :s. Haven't tried penrith, I'll give that a go thx
I had no luck with Penrith.
When i tried to order a car, they told me that they don't negotiate on price, and would only sell at RRP.
I went to Matt @ Parramatta Denlo who has since moved to Chatswood Classic, he looked after me.
Since he moved, I have been dealing with Jadd at Parramatta who has been quite helpful

Mmm yeah I'm very interested in your take on the quattro boys too, planning on stage 2+ with them come December.
Also are you running the stock head unit? I'm looking at putting in a couple of amps, speakers, sub etc but am worried about the lack of tuning via the stock HU...

The parking sensors and climate control use the standard headunit. (i assume this is the same for the RCD, i have RNS)
Leaves you with a couple of options:
Line out convertors (or an amp with high level inputs)
External processor such as Audison Bit-One (which has high level inputs)
Otherwise, if you have very specific needs, you can opt for a second headunit.. and re-route the standard deck into the Aux in.
Drop me a PM if you have some ideas, i'm in the process of planning mine

I know one of the guys in the AV thread put an Apline unit in his MKVI GTI...he said he wasn't fussed about not having the GUI for the climate control, he didn't have parking sensors though (I wouldn't be bothered if I wasn't able to use them)

Jadd Abdi was my original dealer at Parramatta Denlo and has gone to Chatswood Classic, I can vouch for him and I reckon Corey would chip in as well.. give him a yell at Chatswood
Also look up on Carsales.. there are quite a few

Just over 3,500km on my R DSG now. I have spent some $$$$ on it:
Opti-coat
Focal speakers all round, 8"sub, Alpine 4 channel and mono amps placed discreetly next to the spare wheel
APR stage 1
The opti-coat verdict will tell with time
The sound is now excellent

Loving the car and my only real bitch is the climate control - runs way too cold!
I'd love to see some photos of this setup as I'm looking to do the same.
Did you replace all 8 speakers or just the fronts? Did you pick an amp with a high level input?
+1 to this line of questioning... I love Focal (well, Dynaudio too) and would love to know what you did.
In the MKV they had 3 way speakers, and in the MK6 that's dropped back to 2 way. Not that we had an audio upgrade option for the MKV in Australia... whatever.
I got a mrk 5 gti, I wanna get a golf r 5 dr dsg but I can't find any. Dose any one know if any dealers have any? {I don't want to wait 12 months }
I've been to my local, mascot they have 4 3rd r"s no 5 doors
Please help.
Interesting. Has news of the scirocco killed 3dr sales? I can smell some bargains!
I suspect you might need to get in line and wait (like we had to hehe)
In answer to a couple of questions now I'm back on:
Quattro Motors were fine, all very low key though which is fine for a stage 1 (ECU flash only). Don't remember seeing a dyno facility? They didn't know about the $100 service re-flash but made a call to APR once I told them. I went with APR because Quattro Motors are a 15 minute walk from my place, no other reason.
As far as the sound is concerned, I kept the original head unit and had the following installed:
Dynamat extreme front & rear doors
Focal 165KRXS woofers & tweeters in front (165KR2 were too tight)
Focal 165V30 woofers & tweeters in rear
Hertz ES200 sub in fibreglass enclosure (left rear storage area)
Alpine PDX F-6 multi channel amp
Alpine PDX M-6 mono amp (sub)
I also requested a quote for Dynaudio from another dealer but it took so long to get the quote, I went ahead with the Focals.
I went a bit over the top with the rears but I wanted to make sure I got as good as I could get without tuning etc. The install by Westside in Cannington is absolutely first class, they kept the car for 4 days, the installation of the Dynamat and the front speakers is tricky and time consuming (that is a nice way of saying that they had to do unspeakable things to my new car). I made a conscious decision not to go down to see what they were doing
The only thing that you can notice from stock is the sub in the left rear and that is only if you are familiar with the car, otherwise you would not notice. I even have a sub level dial in the small closable storage compartment to the right of the steering wheel.
The sound is fantastic, so clear and detailed. I went to my son's house, opened all the doors and played Back in Black at approx 65% volume, I can assure you the whole street heard it very clearly
I'll try and get some photos of the sub and amp installs tomorrow.

Are you running the factory RNS/RCD510 or an aftermarket HU or processing unit? afaik the head unit has no pre-amp outs and the amps you've chosen don't accept high level inputs?
