There are various cars which are famous for having a really bad turning circle depending on the options. I remember the 306GTI with a 6 speed gearbox having about TWICE the turn radius (in one direction, left or right, can't remember) than the 5 speed version! lol
Yeah, the way they tacked the 6th gear onto the left end of the gearbox resulted in the passenger side steering linkage being obstructed so it couldn't turn as sharply to the right as it could in the other models. Not as big an issue for LHD since U turns are to the left but for the RHD market...
I was really glad that I got the preceding S16 when I found out about that.
Resident grumpy old fart VW - Metallic Paint, Radial Tyres, Laminated Windscreen, Electric Windows, VW Alloy Wheels, Variable Geometry Exhaust Driven Supercharger, Direct Unit Fuel Injection, Adiabatic Ignition, MacPherson Struts front, Torsion Beam rear, Coil Springs, Hydraulic Dampers, Front Anti-Roll Bar, Disc Brakes, Bosch ECU, ABS
I've had the DSG miss a gear a few times now. Has always been coming out of a corner in D and doesn't know whether to downshift to 2 or stay in 3. MFD says its in 3 but lack of forward progress and hitting redline tells me its in neutral.
Had the same experience under hard acceleration while corning.
seems to be 19" related.
As stated earlier, i have been really impressed with the small turnng circle, is at least 1 metre less than my MPS.
I have no problems doing turns on standard size thoroughfares.

Sorry Corey - I know that this is not the right thread to post this query, but I trust that my fellow MK6 owners might be able to answer this question:
Can the RCD/RNS510 read an SDHC UHS-1 card?
I'm tired of waiting for my RCD510 to load my songs from my 16GB class 10 SDHC ...would like to upgrade to a UHS-1 45mb/s card instead .
True and as stated my ACC 19" R has the worst turning circle of any car I've ever owned or even recall driving.
+1. my sentiments exactly.
I have driven some great cars, but I also have driven some **** boxes.. Porsche, BMWs, all the way through to commodores and the mighty'89 camry, or even the mighty 80's Corona.
The GOLF R has the worst I hve experienced. It wouldn't be affected by the diameter of the rims..
It's more than likely the position of the CV shafts, front dif, and some what the suspension but more so the CVs and diff.

I found a one on eBay going for $79.50 delivered from Hong Kong
From the link you provided:
Compatibility Compatible with all SDHC and SDHC UHS-I supporting host devices
So according to Sandisk, it should work in the RNS-510.
But as always, someone just has to bite the bullet and try. Thankfully, if it doesn't work, it was only $80, and it can be used in plenty of other things. So just get it, and let us know how it goes

Rex, do you have 18's or 19's?
I don't understand the comments on turning circle.
My car has a smaller turning circle than ANY other FWD I have driven.
I tel you what.
I wil measure mine this weekend and post it on a new thread. I have a 30m tape.
Every one can then measure and compare.
It wil be interesting to see if there is in fact a diff between 18 and 19's, or it is just a matter of perception.
Remember what Dr. Phill says "There is no reality - only perception"

That would be good, though the motoring mags state the Golf R turning circle at 10.9m which isn't too bad, however my perception is the Golf R has a greater turning circle than my old MPS 6 I need to allow more space when doing similiar maneuvers I did in the 6 on the same roads. Though the 6 had 215/45/18 and the R has 235/35/19
I think rim width offset will impact slightly on the turning circle but the width difference between the 18's and 19's can't be that much??
Anyway I'm used to it now so it's not really a problem
Though I can measure and compare if you want me to :p
*** EDIT Checked on old specs for the MPS 6 and it's turning circle is 11.2m so either my perception is now faulty or Motor got the Golf R on 19's turning circle wrong!

Oh yeah, and you guys arguing over whether who's car can do 4.8 secs or 4.9 secs? How many pages did that go for? Lol.
I feel a measurement was called for due to the apparent polarizing comments being bandied around regarding turning circles.
It seemed that those members expressing disappointment with their turning circle were the ones with 19" wheels.
So for the benefit of those considering whether to option the 19,s with their car, I thought it beneficial to actually measure the turnin circle.
This is how I measured.
I wet the out side tyre and then did a complete circle.
I then took the measurement of the diameter at it's widest point.
Here are the results-
Turning left, full lock - 9.3 m
Turning right, full lock - 9.1 m
My car has 18" wheels, and tyres are 225/40 Dunlop sp sport maxx GT.
Now all we need is another Anal Retentive member with 19's to measure their car. Lol
Gotta go now, have to get back to my Stamp collection.
