Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Go check out a first gen Mazda6, puddle lights have been around for at least a decade on just about anything.

Yeah, my 03 RX-8 had them, but I'm sure Mazda call them Ground Illumniation Lights or something.

No way I'm tearing my car apart to retro-fit them though

Sheesh! is that what they were for, I thought they lit up the interior like the wheel well lights or to let traffic coming up behind know your door was open! and here I had the car for 4 years (and the wife's 6 for 3 before that) and never once used it to look for a puddle before I stepped out

I'm sure lots of cars do, I've never noticed them before nor do I see the point of some of these features.

Just a side note, what ECU does the R have? I'm curious if any of the flashing software packages can be used? Many makes have software available to reflash the ECU such as Evo's, Holden etc. I found this one as an example for the ME7 ECU for older Audis but the web is full of tools that allow ECU tunes via OBD port.

As I mentioned in another thread about it, they really couldn't have found a bigger bunch of douche bags to win! Sounds like a dodgy comp, cos I don't recall seeing or hearing anything about it!

                      • is that all the update is on the site.
Its so hard not to think about the car every day.

Did anyone get the upgraded sound system? I didn't even get a chance to test the standard audio as I was loving the sound from the engine. Hoping its has sufficient bass for a standard system.

Yeah, that is one of the things I checked when i test drove it.
had my own mp3 cd which I had with me.
                            Played the usual testing songs
ACDC, Bon Jovi, ZZ Top, and some Slava Grigoryan for some classical comparison.
It played a little better than my system in my MPS which I rate pretty high for a standard system.

Had it as loud as I could stand it with little distortion, bass tones were clearly audible and the back windscreem was thumping in time nicely.
As a result I then decided I didn't require the Dynaudio upgrade as it is so frackin expensive.
if need be I might throw an aftermarket amp and subwoofer in , but that would be about it.

Now, I know alot of you guys have more ecclectic musical tastes and require a more sophisticated Hi Fidelity experience, but for me i can live pretty easily with the sounds that were coming out of the test car.

                            • lol... Dynaudio is an awesome value upgrade. It's one of those factory options, like the 19" wheels, which it isn't possible to perform cheaper AFTER you've received the car!
