It also should have had 2 services by now - July 2013 & July 2014.

Personally, I'm of the opinion cars should be used, so I think they are asking too much and a price around $40k would be more realistic.

There are plenty of other cars if you look beyond SA, so maybe look further afield or be prepared to pay more for a local car with less fussing about.

January is usually a quiet time for selling cars - February might have a bit more on offer
Thanks Brad, sorry I removed my post but not completely it seems. I did not see your reply when I removed it. Yes car has been on Carsales for some time.

I had second thoughts about this R on Carsales and I am now thinking in terms of what I originally planned to do and that is buy/order a new R later in the coming year. Wife supports the new car option and not buying second hand so I may have to follow that one.

Smart move, especially if you plan on keeping it for a long time.

        • MK6 Golf R Questions

          Hi Guys,

I put some questions up after my first post in the newbies corner regarding my 2010 Golf R. Haven't had much luck, probably should be in this section anyway. Excuse the VW newbness

          1) My car has ~45000kms on the clock, and the previous owner had the DSG service done before the 60000km interval (I think its 60000km?) which I'm sure is no drama but the gearbox whines in manual and sport mode in first and second gear, is this normal? Strange seeing a service was just complete.

          2) At the time of the DSG service, the car was also upgraded to APR stage 1 + with HPFP to compliment the carbon air box. My question is, are these a generic tune plug and play or do they run them up on a dyno? Not sure if it's the 249kw that they claim is all. It doesn't seem to be that good on fuel either (My 400rwhp XR6T was better on fuel) Babying it in Drive for a couple of tanks, and the best I can net is 10L/100. OR is this normal?

          3) From what I can gather to extract more power and go to the next level, cooler and pipe need to be upgraded?

          4) Some easy ones... Does anyone have trouble with the iPod cable? If I skip too many songs via the steering wheel it says Device not connected, but when you look at the iPod in the console it still says connected?

          5) Not sure if its supposed to, but only one reverse light comes on?

          Any answers greatly appreciated.
          Chris

          • I can help with a few.

            3. Intercooler is recommended but a stage 2 is usually just with a downpipe. 2+ might require the cooler.

            4. iPod can be a bit buggy at times so just disconnect it or maybe turn off the unit and see how it goes. It's never perfect.

            5. Euro cars generally only have one reverse light and a rear fog light.

            • removal of parts in my golf r

Hi, I'm trying to figure out the best way to remove of some exterior and interior parts of my golf. I'm wrapping my car in vinyl and need the exterior door handles to be removed, along with the interior door cards and rear light, all of the rear lights which is X4. I have used Google and YouTube But there is no real good instructions on anything so I thought I'd get advice from the right place! Thanks guys!

              • Door handles are not the easiest to remove and hard to explain on the forum. Might be worth going to the dealer to have it done.

                  • Buying a MK6 Golf R

                    Hello all,

We're (my wife and I) in the process of selling our 2012 Polo GTi and we're looking at moving into a MK6 Golf R. We're going to go manual this time round, and I just have a few questions for current owners...

Is there anything we should be particularly weary of when making a purchase?

I'd probably like to buy one that's already modified with a Stage 2 or similar - is this kind of tune safe on these cars? How does the gearbox, clutch and driveline hold up to the extra power and torque?

Are there any electrical gremlins that start to rear their heads on 2011-2012 cars at around this time?

Ideally we'd like manual, Rising Blue or Gunmetal Grey, DynAudio and Adaptive Dampers (maybe leather). Any issues with any of these?

I guess I'm just asking if the MK6 Golf R guys have had any big, or small problems, that I should know about. Even little annoying things like creaky door seals!

                    Cheers!

Hi Mate, nah no issues really at all, both DSG and Manauls are pretty rock solid in the MK6 R, ACC or Adaptive Chassis Control is a nice bit of gear, works really well, having said that the stock suspension improves a lot with just a set of springs. When buying a modded car make sure you get all the details on whats been done and by who in case you need to make changes later on. No electrical issues that i know of. Some of the 2010 build cars have had Haldex issues but are usually sorted under warranty and never an issue again.

Also note that the DSG in the R is totally different to the one that is in the Polo GTI if you had any issues, Polo is a 7spd dry clutch version and the R is a 6spd wet clutch, no issues, Hope that helps

Never had any issues with the DSG in the Polo - It's been fantastic. We just wanna go back to manual!

                          • Any issues would already be documented in this thread (happy reading)

Haven't heard much though so you should be pretty safe.

I recently sold my metallic grey (United grey) 2011 Golf R in manual that was tuned to stage 2+. Clutch was still holding up ok when i sold the car at 26,000km's, but it will have a reduced life at that power and torque level.

No issues with the mechanical side of the car (engine / gearbox etc) - everything was rock solid.

                              • My stage 2 manual slipped a lot when gunning it onto a freeway, I.e the extra torque load in the higher gears (4,5 and even a bit in 3) would be too much for the stock clutch. I have a better clutch assembly sitting here waiting to go in, just not the time to organise someone to do it at the moment..
No real other troubles (except...normally my car is garaged, but the garage is being used for something else at the moment, and all the Sydney rain we had in the past week has somehow made it to under my rear mats, suspecting sunroof is letting it in?)
