Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • This might be worth posting this in this forum.

I first noticed a problem with my MY12 Golf R DSG at around 2000kms, a shudder at around 4000 rpm in manual mode.

My dealer service guy drove it and was at a loss as to what was the cause of the problem. After research, he suspected it was the Haldex not performing as it should. Seems VWA have confirmed that this diagnosis is correct.

Anyway, they have the car now and are rectifying, hopefully. I pick it up tomorrow and will report back with the result.

Glad its not a DSG woe!

          • Thanks, the loan car is a MK VI GTI manual, interesting comparison. Having come from a MK V Golf GTI, suffice to say that I made the right decision between a Golf R DSG and a Golf GTI. IMHO

              • Golf R observation for the day

The R seems to attract young guys in Corolla TC's, Nissan SSS's and VL's looking for action

They look so deflated when the R just keeps on cruising oblivious to the riff raff on the road

                  • I don't see the point in racing them

                    Some would destroy the R.

Some very quick sleeper cars around. I know of a couple of heavily modified Civics that look modest but would crucify a mildly tuned R

I prefer just to enjoy driving a nice car with the hint of go-fast capability without displaying it grotesquely

Well, they have had the car for 2 days and it is not yet fixed. I don't blame the dealer as they tell me that there was a lot of dialogue and head scratching on the part of VWA.

There has also been another R driver who has reported the exact same problem with my dealer. The only thing that I'm worried about is the comment from the service advisor that VW are not sure whether to begin a replacement process or maybe it is just a feature ??? that could be normal???? and replacing the Haldex will not fix the problem.

Upshot is, they will contact me once VWA have made their decision as to what, if any action they will take. Not happy.

                        • Very strange.

Have not heard of this on the UK forums I belong too and they have had the R for some time.

Ours has done 15,000 km and no such issue.

It isn't an ABS fault is it ?

                          Good luck

                          • Mine is MY12, not sure of build week but from memory it is September / October. The shudder is under acceleration mostly moderate to hard and is felt at 4000 rpm although at times I feel it under acceleration at around 2500 rpm.

I don't think it would be ABS. I have tried turning off ESP but it still shudders. Whilst it is not severe, it is easily felt and my concern is that it may develop into something more serious.

                            Time will tell.

                            • Man, could be lots of things such as a torque arm, engine mount but clearly VW would have looked at the obvious you would think.
                              All the best with it.
