Hi All,
I have a MY2012 118TSI with the 7speed DSG.
2 Mondays ago the speedometer passed 6000Klm (after 6 months) and as the shudder was getting worse (1st noticed at around 4000Klm), took the car to my dealer. They told me there was some sort of firmware campaign and they would do the upgrade that would sort the issue. About 1pm that day the dealer called me up to tell me they were now installing an 'uprated' clutch kit.
I picked up the car the next morning and the shudder was still evident - the dealer's service adviser told me that he could not notice it.
Yesterday as I was driving back along Lane Cove road the transmission started stalling at 'D2' on downhill stretches. You know that VW ad where ther a guy overtakes a semi? Well it did not even work for me - I was almost swept aside by another semi as I was no overtaking one in the left lane at 70Klm.
Nearing home I stopped off at the shops to get some bread - started the car up again and the transmission would not shift pastD2 so drove it home in 2nd gear.
Car was towed back to the dealer this morning and suitably hidden behind the building.
Oh Why VW Why?

I guess it depends on the dealer. I took mine in for a service and mentioned the clutch shudder. One of the guys came out and took it for a drive with me and told me to bring it back in 2 weeks and they will replace the clutch kit. 2 weeks (+1 day later). No more shudder.
edit:
I went to Barloworld in Mascot (Sydney)

I am the latest person by the looks of it with a shuddering DSG clutch. Very disturbed as my Golf 77 TSI was one year old in January (20,000 klms). After doing a Google search for DSG shudder I found this site and just joined up now. I really feel like selling the car as I feel it's quite a major process; to firstly to convince my VW dealer to replace the clutch, then the amount of trips back and forward, plus waiting for parts and finally getting it back to probably find out that something else is wrong. Does anyone know if the engine has to come out to be able to access the clutch components? If so, I think it might go.Originally posted by Bel View PostTook me 3 trips to the dealer to actually get it replaced... Took months for it to actually get replaced. Persistence paid off... No more shudder and it's back to how the car was when I first bought it.
First off I might try driving it as a manual encase the transmission does somehow reset itself and by a miracle, the shudder disappears. The shudder is pretty much the same as most people have mentioned. Intermittent and noticeable usually while accelerating in second gear. Any advice would be appreciated. Thx

Got any codes or reference numbers we can quote? Or is it the same one that's in the post you quoted?

How come you guys can get the dealer to change the clutch so easily, I couldn't even get my dealer to do a simple reset. By way of an update, the car is still driving much better than before, although I've had the occasional 'clunk' between 1-2-3rd gear when it's very cold, pulling out of my driveway. Today on the freeway I noticed the variable revs in 4th gear again when prodding the right pedal, so I may try again for a new clutch pack since warranty expires in September.

I had a go at that DSG reset procedure and have since noticed my DSG is much better - hope it stays that way.

The only sound I hear with open window is the sweet sound of the supercharger growling.Originally posted by the_winner View Postno sounds at rough road with open windows?
I ask two guys more with brand new scirocco DSG7 and they have the same sound at rough road with open windows!

yes - looks like the driver will get spinal injury from just driving that around in the city LOLOriginally posted by Ryan_R View PostDon't know if anyone saw last week's TopGear USA but the Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster (S-tronic) had horrid jerking at low speeds - way worse than any DSG Golf.

Was driven to the train station yesterday in a 7spd DSG Golf that wasn't the 118 (slower). It still had a bit of pick-up off the line (as long as it shifted down some gears) but was silky smooth. I actually thought we were in the diesel 6spd until I noticed the number 7 on the MFI.
