There are many people here suggesting Australia does not have lemon laws. This is not entirely correct.

The ACCC provides statutory warranty on all products sold in Australia to protect consumers. Repair, replace, refund

"Under the consumer guarantees, your rights are not limited to a set time period. Instead, they last for the amount of time that is reasonable to expect given the cost and quality of the item or any representations made about the item."

Spending 30k+ for a brand new car, I think it is reasonable to expect that the gearbox lasts longer than 5 years (possibly more). If dealers are giving you a hard time just lodge a complain with ACCC.

If there was, you'd have a letter by now.

Don't go asking your dealer to alter the mapping of the DSG for you. They simply wont do it.

I have had all the same problems with the shudder (new clutch packs) and a new mechatronik. The car is still not really what it used to be. There is still the rough idle with some misfire, the 3 to 2 downshift bang, the rattle noise when driving over a rough surface, the slight hesitaion when taking off followed by fast acceleration. All small things which are only random hence difficult to reproduce when going on a 'drive around' with the mechanic.

I am currently thinking to 'swap' the Golf DSG with a manual Jetta. Don't get me wrong here I love the Golf/DSG and the standard VW is setting in the small car segment but at the end of the day I just want car that is working and reliable. I have better things to do than leaving the car with the dealer to "fix" a 2 year old car.

    *end rant*

Complementary firmware update for VW 7 speed DSG (dry)

Been reading the Singapore veedub forum and it seems that the local VW Asia office has sent a letter to owners of VW cars with the 7 speed DSG dry box that there's a complementary firmware update. It was sent early March.

Has there been a similar program in Australia?

Seems the Golf VI 118TSI with 7sp DSG has been a bad thing for VW. I agree having been through the drama of a Golf V Slush box tranny blowing up at 80,000Kms and car being off the road for 5 weeks due to the incompetance of the tech who rebuilt the tranny. Next time (even though under ext warranty) I will be demanding a NEW transmission as it seems to come through that repairing these DSGs is not for the average mechanic. I think this reliability issue is becoming a nightmare for VW as they pump out 7 million cars a year. Mind you until we get lemon laws in Australia, these cowardly car manufacturers will always try and run away from being honorable, but it amazes me why they don't realise brand loyalty is important to their profits in the long term, but as an un-nammed Service Manager at a VW dealer stated to his team one day, VW make **** cars that break down often and they are lucky so they get plenty of work.....well that says it all doesn't it?

Can someone inform me if there is an obvious advantage buying a new Golf Diesel with a 6 sp DSG as these I hear still have a wet clutch and are possible a better DSG? As for 7 sp DSG, I'd say get the new DSG (S tronic) in the Audi Q5 or steer away to BMW like you say.

Could it be that the a faulty mechatronics cause the shutter in the beginning and then eventually dies?

Got my car booked in next week and if the service I receive is satisfactory I'll probably take them up on that offer. No point in me paying for extended 'bad' service.

Agree with Ryan, seems the clutch solves one issue but in the end the mechatronics need to be done as well.

I had a look on line about Lemon Laws but it doesn't really seem to cover the issues I've had, I LOVE my car when t's preforming as I expected a new car would.
Free extended warranty would be an interesting way to approach it.

    Well...
I had my clutches replaced under warranty 2 months ago and the shudder issue was solved.

On the weekend I went out shopping, jumped back in my car and went to drive off and the DSG wouldn't engage a gear. Tried disconnecting the battery and reset the ECU but it didn't help.

Called VW's road side assistance but had to wait 2 1/2 hours before a tow truck came and they booked a taxi for me.

    Sounds like a mechatronics problem?

What protection do consumers have with 'Lemon cars'? has anyone contacted VW Australia directly and demanded car replacement or compensation of some type? (maybe a free extended warranty)

My car has only 3 months warranty left and with all these issue going on I don't want to be left holding the rotten egg.

Why should I be out of pocket for having to buy a replacement car?

I think most of you feel the same way I do about my Golf.
I love it! It drives so well - the design and engineering is ahead of it's competitors. I can't think of another car that I would like to own but if only I could feel confident with it again.

I'd love to hear from anyone that has taken this up with VW Aust and have been compensated.
