  • All work and parts have 24 months warranty, regardless if you paid for it or if it was done under warranty.

This is from the email I received from Volkswagen Australia

Please also be advised that genuine Volkswagen parts carry a 24 month warranty (independent of the Volkswagen New vehicle Warranty Policy) from the date of purchase or installation when carried out by a Volkswagen Authorised Repairer. You should therefore retain your invoice from your Volkswagen dealership for 24 months as proof of the beginning of the warranty period. This warranty is available at any Authorised Volkswagen Dealer throughout Australia.

      • My car just get tow back to VW. Since last night my car is not changing gear, not even the P R N D S displaying on the dashboard. car can only go up to 40km then drop straight back to 0. This morning, i turn on the car, everything looks fine, driving along homebush bay drive...out of sudden the whole car start to shudder and clunk so badly, engine light came on, was on D7 and straight away all these disappear on the dashboard and no gear engagement. Stop on the side of the road for 10 minutes, turn on the car, now i can see it is changing gear but every single gear change, no matter is increasing or decreasing, has a very very bad clunk sound.

        SIGH .....

Sounds like the mechatronic has failed... is your car still under warranty?

yeah mine is 09. I currently have extended warranty which is good. VW chatswood classic only able to look at my car this Friday as they are fully booked. Guess my car will be sitting at dealer until Friday then, might give them a call Friday evening and see what is happening.

              • Yeah, I thought it would be an 09-er. I had the same problem, just more brutal; drive, drive, drive, stop ... end of story.
3 weeks later I had it on the road again with a new mechatronics put in. Out of warranty it would cost around $3,000 to fix.

Ask the dealer to give you a complimentary loan car.

3K holy cr@p ... I gave them a call just now, they said had received my car from toll truck and has been allocated to a service advisor. I might call them Friday and ask what is the update. If takes forever to fix it, i would ask for a complimentary loan car.

                  • Had no idea this was such an issue. Our 118 TSI (June 2010) has just had a clutch replaced. On the service form it's shown as
                    vw0am198140c replacement kit.
Is this the new clutch pack for the DSG7?

                    • Had my first service on the 77TSI Golf with the 7 speeder today. One of the items they did a factory bulletin service for was the DSG software update.

They also fixed some washer on the actuator or something.

Overall, I thought it felt smoother, but wife didn't think the gearbox was jerky before this.

Those made in German are already having issues so can't see how "made in China" would make it any better or equal in quality.

So in Oz do we get any extended warranty on the DSG?
I rang up the ACCC but as I am a 'sole entity they can do nothing. Advise me to go through fair trading etc.

If there were few peoplethen togetther we may have a cchance of getting VW Australia to do something about it. I notice that VW in other countries are notifying people through their (VW in that country) facebook page so I guess they are being pro-active.

VW AU though is taking advantage of the laid back style here.

My uncle bough a Lancer 6 monhts before I bought my golf and for $11k less - he is far happier, no issues at all.

                            • While my car is still much better, I took it back for them to have another look at due to the occasional lurches when start/stopping and since general warranty runs out in 2 weeks. They insisted I take them for another drive (fine) and the guy said the next step is to change the mechatronics (I pretended not to know anything about this)

They've had the car all day so I have no idea if they've changed the mechatronics (do they keep spare ones now) or if they've only performed further diagnostics.

                              • Took my 118TSI (Dec2009 build) in today for its 45K service and reported the occasional shuddering I was experiencing when pulling away from slow speeds in second gear. The bloke on the service desk wrote it down, didn't seem interested in any further descriptions, didn't ask for a demo of the fault and when I picked up the car told me they would be replacing the clutch pack. It also got the DSG firmware update (service campaign 37G7). I was also told that the rear shocks were weeping slightly and would also be replaced at the same time but they needed to wait for the rear shocks to come in from overseas (the clutch pack they had in stock). Seems funny that they have clutch packs in stock but not rear shock absorbers. I wonder what percentage of the 7 speed DSG's will end up requiring replacement clutch packs?

Mind you, shuddering clutches aren't unique to VW. I had a 2003 Mazda 6 lease car that also developed a clutch shudder shortly before the warranty expired which was covered by a Mazda service bulletin and resulted in a replacement clutch - in that instance the tech showed me the assembly they had pulled out and said it had never bedded in properly - you could still see the machining marks on the pressure plate.
