The clutch is controlled by the mechatronic unit so I don't believe you can put it down to driver fault. Also the fact that VW are replacing clutch packs under warranty suggests that it is indeed a manufacturing fault since warranty doesn't cover damages that are caused by the user.

Took ours back to the dealer yesterday. The DSG has been like brand new since the clutch pack fitment. Unfortunately travelling to work on Friday & the missus reported that while taking off from either a standing start or slow speed there was absolutely no throttle response. She had the pedal to the floor and the engine did not rev. She managed to get it to work, and on the return run home there was no sign of the problem. It sounds like maybe an electrical connection / throttle pedal potentiometer issue that the engine ECU reset once the ignition was switched off. No warning lights came up and as I had my VCDS cable at work I couldn't scan it.
It was OK on the drive down to the dealers yesterday too. Hopefully they can see a fault with their software. Intermittent problems really are the worst to diagnose.
Six months left on the warranty. Hmmm, extended warranty or GTI / Roc?

Decisions.
Extended warranty is around another $1400. Maybe bail sooner.
You have obviously done lots for your car and it would be a pity to sell so soon.Skoda Octavia Mk3

I feel for people that have problems with their TSI. Fortunately I haven't had any, so consider myself lucky. However I will be getting the extended warranty in 6 months when the 3 years warranty runs out. Still the best car I've ever owned.

My dsg died this morning. Started it up, put it into R and nothing. D nothing. CEL light on and gear display flashing! Checked fuses, 30a #2 fuse blown. Call roadside assist, they send nrma and he replaces the blown fuse only for it to blow straight away. It's now about to get a tow to service!
Best but is, they don't have a courtesy car available until thursday!!!

I experienced my first shudder in 2nd gear this morning in traffic - while rolling up a slope in slow movement, it felt like the clutch wasn't fully engaged and then when I give a bit more gas the shudder came. I eased off the pedal, manual downshift to 1st and didn't shift up to 2nd until 2500rpm.
Then in the carpark I tried to reproduce it and I found it is much easier to get the shudder in 2nd on a slope. Probably time to book in for a clutch pack replacementGolf Mk6 118TSI MY11 | UG | DSG | RCD510 | Dynaudio | MDI | Park Assist | Sport Pack | Opti-coat

That's how mine started I think. It had issues with talking and no gear at intersections. Once at the m2 off ramp with a dump truck screeching it's brakes as I wasn't moving on green and another was at an intersection on a hill ad it slipped then no gear. Not happy. Not happy at all!!

My thinking in my case is possibly go to the GTI rather than hang around onto the current car until the Golf 7. Reasoning is that the GTI is based in a more mature technology that would have fewer issues than the 118tsi. The other consideration are teething issues from being an early adopter again with Golf 7.

Don't get me wrong, I still love it to bits and think it is an amazing piece of technology. I'm not getting all drama queen about the issues with it (unlike some). But I have to be realistic too. DSG breakdowns outside of warranty are going to be very costly.
Maybe not a pity if I can get a good price. I'd remove the LED tailights and sell them privately for a start. That would get a tint and half an opi-coat on a new car.
Now, if only I can convince the missus that we only need a 3 door. Hopefully by July / August VW will have a few more Roc's in stock and that they are more negotiable on price. If not then it looks like a GTI. Either way its a win.
Anyway, I rang the dealer and they have found a problem. Receptionist couldn't tell me what but they have ordered parts overnight and it should be ready for pick up tomorrow. My guess is that it has a throttle pedal dead spot.sigpic

I know a few people knock the dealerships, but I have to say in all honesty I have had great service from Paul Wakeling's at Campbelltown. They fixed the clutch pack / shudder problem with the DSG and now this. I only rang up last Friday and said we'd drop it off on Saturday for them to get to this week. One day and one hour later its all fixed under warranty with the minimum of fuss. I'm well impressed at the moment.

hello to all!!!
I am new and i join this forum because i found this thread about the harsh shuder at the 2nd gear with DSG7!
First of all i have a VW Scirocco 1.4 TSI 160hp with DSG7 it is MY2012.Before i buy it i was enthousiast about the DSG but then i do some search at the net and i found A LOT OF Problems!!! Anyway i love it and i bought it! I Have it 2 months and i have 3500km . All the car is PERFECT !!! DSG7 Perfect exept the Annoying noise(rattle) when i am with 2nd or 3rd gear and i am at rough road. Do your DSG7 do the same annoying rattle?? From my searchs i have see that all DSG7 have the same sound at rough road.
On topic now ... at the greek sciroccoclub there is a SAME THREAD as here!!! ''Harsh Shudder at 2nd Gear with DSG Gearbox'' From the start of the January of 2012 some VW Dealers call some users of DSG7 that a new Clutch Pack is out from VW so all the guys who have the problem with the harsh shudder with the DSG7 are now happy , its official there is a new Clutch Pack for DSG7 ,new material, new code, better clutch pack!Go and ask your dealer to contact with VW Germany !
Its true that vw have a new clutch pack for DSG7 ,because i go to my dealer to take some parts for a modification and i ask ''i hear that VW has a new Cluch pack for DSG7, is it true?'' answer: Of course ,but do you have problem? me: no i just ask...
So i hope to have the new clutch pack because mine is MY2012 . And also i hope that the new clutch pack will not have problems after 20.000km

My 2009 Golf 118TSi has had issues from day 1. The car has now done 54K after 2.5 years and it has been diagnosed as having piston 4 misfiring and losing compression. The car shakes and vibrates at idle and during driving. It's booked in at the dealer in a few days-they seem to think it's a serious problem. From what I've read with other people having similar problems, it's serious enough that a new engine might need to be installed. I'm very unhappy with this unreliability for a "40K small German" car. After i get these issues sorted out, I'm getting rid of the car and purchasing a 2012 BMW 125i.
