Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

That was my main reason for choosing the 5 door. And if i decide to start a family in a few years then the car will still be practical - whereas a 3 door wouldn't be.

Furthermore, my house has a relatively skinny driveway and garage so the smaller doors are much easier to live with on a daily basis - getting in and out etc.
Lucas, the 3 v 5 door hatch debate has been done and all your points covered. My view is that demand for the 3 door configuration is limited and I suspect not a value proposition to the company.

Now Corey's point about choice is valid but not always viable in the larger scheme of things, I mean all we have to do is look at the MKV golf for testament to that.

Anyway Corey I know you like both the last word and to be right regardless but the point is still moot

      +1

If everyone gave a **** about practicality or needing to be a taxi, lots of cars wouldn't even exist let alone sell in the numbers they do. People get confused about their own requirements and the need for everyone else, including the manufacturers to conform to them.

Keep the choices open. They still make 3 doors O/S so having them as order only for AU doesn't impact on anyone other than those who choose to wait.

For the Australian market you are probably right. For some reason, anything with 2 doors in Australia attracts added insurance costs. In Europe, 2 doors are fairly popular.

The Euro market is in love with the whole hatch proposal.. the US market is an entirely different proposition..The argument surrounding the Scirocco and the R in 3 door probably holds water..

              • In my opinion you could do all that stuff to a GTI but it still won't be an R. Pure an simple

                • Been done to death.

Test drive them both. Buy whichever one you want. Then justify why you spend more/less to death on the internet for no reason.

                    • Once people start getting worked up about the number of doors on a car that is the same in every other respect, you know single make forums are getting a bit silly.

If only it were that simple...LOL.

Does that tune add drive to rear, bigger brakes, and xenon lighting??

                            • It does stand out.. when I ordered mine I had never actually seen one in the metal only on paper.. was very pleased the day I picked her up. Agonised over getting the black or Grey but wanted something that said it was an R and the RB is the R hero colour so it was the pick
