He wouldn't want the 35...it has the older and inferior EA113 engine.

    • I call shenanigans, the only cars that seem to be delayed are 3drs from old orders.

Dealers seem to have heaps of 5 door stock (Camberwell does anyway) in varying options so if someone really wanted a car and didn't want to wait, they'd be able to find something for immediate delivery without too much trouble. That goes for GTI as well.

That's a tautology right there mate.

            Oh, and it's satirically.

Hope that helps you out in future. You look a bit of a **** lecturing people about spelling and grammar when you can't grasp basic literary devices and basic spelling.

He was mean to me and I didn't do nothin' to him...I dunit to Corey.

Sartirically, quite so: Should have italicised both instances. How embarrassing!
Not that the intended recipient picked it, despite the open invitation. Maybe a squiggly red underline would have helped? I’d guess it wasn’t ‘G’oogled?

Hmmm, not quite on the tautology.

Without referring to the unopened grammar text books…

Tautology is to unnecessarily express the same thing in succession.

A fine example is ‘to kill dead’. Given there is only one state of dead, presuming you don’t include the super natural, then any time something is killed it must be dead. It is possible to die dead however? Either way dead is dead! In some cases it would be useful to know how death was borne (ha, ironic expression, eh?) so an adverb would be useful to further describe ‘how’.

Now, satire, or ‘humorous’ criticism, has many forms with sarcasm being just one of them: Low brow, I’ll concede.

Sarcasm is not intrinsically humorous, to wit…it seems.

The criticism drawn, with respect, would be akin to saying that ‘running slowly or ‘thinking poorly’ was a tautology. Running can have many states, slow, fast or carelessly, if you will.

The adverb ‘slowly and ‘poorly’ could respectively be substituted for ‘quickly’ or ‘cleverly’ (however probably not in this context) with a notable change to how the verbs were conducted, which as in this circumstance, ‘satirically sarcastic’ is in consistent use with the adverb rule.

While you’re free to have an opinion whether (or was that weather or wether, sic) or not I’m a, as so eloquently phrased, ‘****’, I have little doubt that no tautological gaff was made by using sarcasm as an adverb to describe how the satirical comment was made.

Unless you were having a taunt at keeping ‘mum’ which would be more ironic at this point than tautological. ; )

How indulgently verbose: Should be an error or 3 to pick...such opportunity.

Volley (on the full or barrage)?
Or: A Golf R full of fluids is a better proposition (preposition) than a GTI low on fluids or vice versa: Which is to say back on to the well aged topic now.

                      • it must be frustrating....

what would happen if "Ray" threw in the towel and spent $15k less on the car that just broke the Nordschleiffe FWD record?

                        interesting...

                        • Ray had his mind focussed on the Golf R way before it was shown or released to the public. He was concerned about the looks of the Golf R, esp. the front end design with gapping holes in the front bumper and low rent grill, in addition to turbo lag and long term reliability of tuning. Ray prefers a more executive type of package, which the R32 provides with splashes of chrome here and there. He did look at the HSV Senator (too big & heavy), Lexus IF350 Sports/Luxury (too end model goes without sports suspension tune & not aftermarket SATNAV can be fitted, plus the m/v is at the end of the it's life cycle) and he was knocked back on a couple of low ball offers he made for late model low mileage BMW M3 Coupes (insurance premium too high). At that point in time, Ray was looking at buying the best car he could afford. He woken up and smelt the roses & has a change of heart now. Ray will probably use the money to go on the holiday and if he follows my advice, hopefully undertake a few driving courses to improve his skills, which is money well spent.

As for me, I could live with the looks of the Golf R, apart from the front, it's a nice looking m/v, the weight I could live with, the understeer can be easily rectified with a set of H&R sway bars, but it was too difficult to get my head around buying the same motor I had in the MKV GTI (EA113), esp with the bigger turbo providing less driveability. Ray has a method to his madness in that he tends to keep his ride for 3-5 years and sell before 60,000km odo if you want a reasonable price to finance the purchase of another vehicle. I tend to agreee with him on the 60,000km mark for saleability. My GTI is not used during the week and has abut 25,000km in 13 months - with a couple of longer triips in near future, I'll be hitting 30,000km service in about 15-16mths - a decision will have to be made whether to sell at around 60,000km and 3 years or keep the GTI for the longer term. As an owner of a GTI, I like the GTI more now than when I first purchased it. The GTI does everything so well and XDS is well judged for public road driving. I do get annoyed on rougher tourist routes and B'grade roadways with the brittle ride on 18" wheels/tyres and miss the trade-mark Koni style ride that my old KW coilovers in the MKV GTI offered with a distinct separation from low speed compression and high speed compression damping.

I did have another look at the Renault Megane RS250 (basic spec) as a comparison against the Trophee RS250 spec to determine the difference between the two. The basic is only really missing the stereo, folding heated mirrors, keyless start, larger wheels and Recaro seats, but still has all the good gear like fancy Italian Brembo brakes, LSD and Revo-knuckle front steering/driveline separator & alloy suspension parts. In terms of practicality the 3 door is a negative and I reckon the basic spec RS250 would be hard to sell 3-4 years on as I find that buyers of 2nd hot hatches tend to be younger guys about 10-20 years younger than me that want all the fancy Recaros seats and bigger 19" wheels. For now I'm extremely happy with the Golf GTI and it's still my choice as the best all-rounder.
                          Cheers.

                          • WJ,

I am puzzled at the references to the front end of the R , in my mind it is way and beyond the fairly benign / generic look of the GTI which lends itself to the rest of the range, but to be clear this like your comment is my opinion. I also think that ownership of the GTI has hardened your resolve as the car's characteristics and personality become more evident over time and you appreciate it's nuances.

The R is much the same in this respect, the more you drive it the better you adapt to how it delivers. I have just come back from a 4 hour trip north and it is a fantastic ride and it just gets smoother and louder the more you drive it. I suspect that although you have taken the R out for a thrash and given your views it is still a limited experience and cannot really compare to the longer term ownership of the GTI.

Ray has made a mistake in letting the R go, I was of the same mind at a tipping point in the waiting game but now very glad I waited. The R32 , although a great car will age/ date may also get classified as a Classic but the R isn't trying to replace it merely improve on a great footprint.

Ray should buy a computer and say "hi"
He should also have waited just a few weeks more for his R. So worth it!
