It's sad when people cant admit that the GTI they purchased is not the best Golf, if you loved golf's so much why would you not buy the Golf R if you could afford it or if you cant, get the GTI Ed 35 which seems like a great little machine for the price. WJ I like your reviews but if someone had $50k to spend on a car I would always tell them to go for a standard Golf rather than GTI.Current Ride: Golf R candy white,DSG, ACC, 19" Talladega wheels, leather and Bluetooth

This logic is flawed, just because the r is more expensive, doesn't mean it's better for every car buyer. Using commodores as an example, would the grange be better for a bogan than say the gts? Both r commos, one is more than the other, both r similar yet different.Originally posted by DCRL View PostIt's sad when people cant admit that the GTI they purchased is not the best Golf, if you loved golf's so much why would you not buy the Golf R if you could afford it or if you cant, get the GTI Ed 35 which seems like a great little machine for the price. I bought the gti as I couldn't justify $15k. Was the r $15k better, like for like? Would the awd be beneficial for me, even tho its essentially a fwd biased car and the awd kicks In when I'm in trouble? Would the power difference be worth $15k when I can easily achieve that with stg2 tuning?
For me the answer was easy, gti was the better car for my needs.2011 cw golf gti 3dr man-tint-rear cargo mat-weathershields-bluetooth-mdi-19" oz racing ultra leggera-mcgard lockbolts-boston acoustic pro60se-jl audio xd700/5-jl audio bass tube bb-w060p- titanium exhaust tips-eibach custom pro-kit-OPS-OSIR cf mirror covers and cf front lip-dieselgeek short shifter

** sigh ** and so it goes round.... all this noise and the answer is quite simple, if you can afford it ( this means it every sense ) everyone would buy the R. If not then the GTI is a perfectly capable unit which can command as much respect by owners and admirers alike.Originally posted by walbjj View PostThis logic is flawed, just because the r is more expensive, doesn't mean it's better for every car buyer. I am yet to see anyone post, I bought a GTI cause the R is garbage and then spent the 10 - 15K difference ( if indeed that's what you believe it is) making it perform and look like an R
I tip my hat to the GTIs both new and old when I am out and about and still think they are a neat looking piece of kit. To be clear if the money issue was removed from the table and the keys to an R and a GTI were there for the taking there would be a race for the R keys. The same can be said for all the different car ranges not just VW.. it is human nature
Now back to appreciating both these great cars in whatever form they takeCurrent Ride: MY 16 Daytona Pearl Grey Audi S3- Performance Pack 1, Sunroof and Driver assist

But if I see one more GTI with R black mirrors and LED lights I might get a bit cranky. You didn't buy an R. You bought a GTI. Both good cars. Stop pretending your car is something different. You are as bad as someone who buys an evo bodykit for a lancer.Audi S3. Sold

So true, once an R is rolling there is nothing in it. They do have the hole shot advantage due to the haldex but once both cars are rolling it is suprising how little there is in it.Originally posted by sabloke View PostYou don't need $10-15k to make a GTI perform like an R. All you need is a $2k remap and to ask two of your mates to sit on the back seat. Oh well, that alone might cost you a six pack but there's still a long way to $10k
The power to weight ratio of a stage 1 GTI is a lot better than that of a stock R, but then the R has that crazy AWD traction, rain, hail and shine.

Well when my R gets here I'm going to make some changes.Originally posted by SilvrFoxX View PostI would put your flame suit on now.. that one is going to get attention..
Detune it to be at GTI power, convert it to FWD, fit GTI OE mags, dump the LED tails for Std GTI tails, spray it Red.
Oh wait.... damn why didn't I just buy a GTI in the first place????
Hey C'Mon guys just pokin the bear.
