Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Nissan Maxima -v- Polo GTI
One of the best looking Golf's imo is the std 118TSI in White with Sports Pack (non DCC). It has nice looking polished wheels, fog lamps, simple Golf looking exterior, sports interior seats, lowest ride height of all Golf's with exception of the Golf R (yes ... lower than the GTI and 118TSi with DCC). It doesn't have all this over the top fancy spoilers, skirts, double exhaust pipes, rear difusers, etc. Just simple, understated and classy ... all for about 35K. The GTI's 18" Detriot wheels are also polished with clear coat & have the inner side of the wheel painted in black, unlike the Golf R. Despite the brake dust & road grime on the Detriots, they very rarely do they look dirty. Yes ... that's another reason why Ray rescinded on his order and is going to wait to see what the Mark 7 GTI is like. Sirocco R is a no go for him atm. I mentioned before that Ray who is in his mid 40's, his business partner Victor who is pushing 50 years of age and I were going to put together a Golf GTI - Golf R - Polo GTI drive review. What did Victor buy instead of the Polo GTI? A top of the range fully loaded Nissan Maxima for about 45K. Yes ... from Polo GTI with Bi-Xenons for 35K and 12 months wait to a Nissan Maxima 350. The Nissan was in stock for immediate delivery. Ray did looked at the Hyundai I45 top of range model to compare quality & craftmanship to the Lexus IS350 and his rrp $74500 Golf R. The quality of the Hyundai I45 was remarking good compared to the Golf R. Point is that when buyers of Volkswagen products, be it Polo GTI or Golf R, sohp for a new ride, they do not always shop around for the best or fastest hot hatch on offer or the best Golf allrounder for that matter, which in this case is the GTI. After some more thought ... Ray's almost fully loaded Golf R does not have a sunroof, which may hamper the dealers ability to make a sale as most loaded Golf R's are optioned with a sunroof. Maybe an offer of 66K for Ray's rescined Golf R order could be on the cards.
Oh yeah; here's a link to the Maxima and Hyundai I45 fyi. Both can be had for under 45K with heaps of options as standard.

Hyundai is on the rise when it comes to quality. Have a look at the new Kia Rio that's launching in Europe. On the other hand... Just watched Fifth Gear's review of VW's flagship, the Phaeton. Verdict: boring and already dated. Go figure, the most luxurious VW ever failed...
Not a Kia or Hyundai fan but I have to say that in this day and age laughing at Korean cars looks pretty stupidThe European car manufacturers stopped laughing long time ago for some reason.

Why would VW change the Phaeton or make it fancier when it sells so highly in markets like that in it's current state?Current Ride: MY 16 Daytona Pearl Grey Audi S3- Performance Pack 1, Sunroof and Driver assist

Well, the same could be said about Golf R. Why buy an R and then spend all that dough to cure under steer and improve handling? Just buy a drivers car FFS
What that guy does with his GTI is his business. Who cares about some American boy destroying the look of his GTI with some body kit anyway?
