I mean, the best TV's every made are from 3 years ago, the last generation of Pioneer Kuro. NO manfacturer has made a TV as good since.

Depends which mkv version you are talking about... the mk6 gti is better than the mk5 gti. But mk6 gti is nowhere near as good as the mk5 gti pirelli

Oh you won't get any argument from me about that. It is better in terms of refinement and underbody chassis stiffness. But in terms of fun and adhereing to the GTI heritage - The Mk6 GTI does not. It is a good luxo hatch but a GTI it ain't. The R fits that bill a lot better.

So IMO, the Mk6 GTI like the MkIV and MkIII GTIs before it are not worthy of the GTI reputation. If it ain't fun to drive, it ain't a GTI.

There's also the problem of the lack of discounts available on the R compared to the GTI you have to factor in though.

I took delivery of my R on 30th of June (had pre-ordered in Dec 09) and got around $4k discount which I was pretty happy with. However, I did find that the Qld dealers laugh at your face when I had asked about discount.

Agree, not that easy to get a decent discount up here as there aren't 11 dealerships like NSW/VIC, but you should still be able to get 11% off with corporate discount or a bit of haggling.

Those who want the latest first will always pay the most.

There is only three dealerships in Perth, first one I went to offered me $500 off the purchase of two cars, needless to say I went elsewhere with Dermot giving me a nice little discount and making an easy sale you can always buy interstate, brand new R at the wangara dealership is headed for SA so there are options there and transportation isn't that much as I have shipped two of my cars interstate.
