I think we should leave it open.Originally posted by dave- View PostIt's decided!
I'm giving the R to the missus and taking the Polo.
PS: Close thread, its about 38 pages too far now.
It is quite amusing to read some of the things that are being written in this thread.
Some of the GTI stalwarts are now not shouting as loud as before. Probably because they have been shamed into submission. When I first stated that the R was better than the GTI (After I had test driven one in Sg in March this year), I was shouted down by several early adopter MKVI GTI owners (when they themselves hadn't even seen the inside of the R). All they had supporting their arguments were early previews and overseas reviews of the R.
You and I know the R is the better of the two vehicles - performance wise - so don't get upset about it. I love reading the crazy/far out things that are being written about on the GTI vs R debate. Want some popcorn?Last edited by triode12; 22-10-2010, 09:56 AM.

I recently ordered my GTI Mk VI, with a lot of options included, without having to wait, until next week anyway.
Test drove a silver 5 door R with DSG at Denlo Volkswagen a few weeks ago. Drove superbly (even though I hated DSG), and I noticed that a few people were waiting for their test drives as well, so demand was high and same could be said for the GTI 6 speed.
Me, I work hard, and earn a fair bit of coin so I could have easily ponied up for the R with quite a few options, but personally, I feel that it wasn't a night and day difference between the 2, and the huge impact it can make to a buyer having to wait 6-12 months for a flippin car.
I am extremely happy with the GTI Mk VI with options, so no regrets. I can imagine its very painstaking for a lot of R owners still waiting, and that requires a lot of dedication and mind control. I would take my business elsewhere if I have to wait that long.
This thread did amuse me somewhat though

Don't get me wrong, if there was a CW or DP Black R 3 door, with most or all of the options I wanted on the GTI, then I would have grabbed that in a heartbeat if it was available in the local compound. (I'm sure you blokes would do the same lol).Originally posted by SilvrFoxX View PostAnd that my friend is all that matters....
But waiting 6-12 months? No thanks. I want to enjoy my new toy as soon as I can.. Although I could posssssibly wait if the dealer told me I could get the R at the same price as a GTI. But you know how unlikely that would be.Last edited by DEMIGODGTI; 22-10-2010, 03:51 PM.

You should keep this in mind for the next time you feel like submitting one of your usual anti MK6 posts.Originally posted by triode12 View Post+1
Ask long as one is happy with one's purchase, there is no need to bag the other car to make one's purchase sound/look better.
This thread took a bad turn when people forgot that it was about comparing the different virtues of each model, and then it got ugly when someone brought Kamahl into it.

If I was so anti Mk6 ..... why would I have so much praise for the R (if you haven't realised - is a mk6!)?Originally posted by hooba View PostYou should keep this in mind for the next time you feel like submitting one of your usual anti MK6 posts.

Doesn't make sense right?
Unlike a few members on here, I happen to call a spade a spade.
You still haven't admitted your bias yet Hooba, but you keep getting upset when the R is praised and post snide remarks in retaliation.
Are you a MkVI GTI owner by any chance?Last edited by triode12; 22-10-2010, 08:24 PM.
