Not sure what your LMAO at? I said I had an 11 sec SKYLINE as well back in the day, which would chop any of your M3's that you owned, unless ofcourse you supercharged them. Which you may have.

As for a TIGUAN chopping a WRX and/or an R.. You are an idiot and makes me wonder if you have as much sense as anything else. Gee'z this forum is getting more and more Interesting! First apparently the GTI is better than the R, now the TIGUAN is better than a GTI/R and whatever else you want to add.

And can blow a WRX!! LMFAO. And as someone who is calling a 325CI a hairdresser car, you calling a 1 series BMW what exactly? And yes its a coupe, but its a stumpy one at that.

      • I still cant believe you just said that a TIGUAN outperfoms a WRX and an R. I will never read anything you say again with any sort of confidence.

Cheers. Lets hope you never have to line me up in the TIGUAN.

Agreed, off topic and Im happy to leave at that.

World's fastest Golf blasts into Australia

World's fastest Golf blasts into Australia
          words - Joshua Dowling
New generation Golf R is most powerful VW hatchback of all time

Volkswagen has delivered a major blow to the hot hatch market -- the fastest Golf ever built has come in $7000 cheaper than the model it replaces.

The starting price of $48,490 for the Golf R (it used to be $55,490 when it was the V6-powered Golf R32) is likely to leave GTI fans with a huge dilemma, given that it is only $7000 more than a regular GTI.

This amounts to a difference in lease payments of about $20 a week.

"We wanted to make a big statement with this car," says Volkswagen Australia's product marketing manager Vladin Dimic.

"The R32 has proven a very popular model in Australia so we have been able to negotiate with the factory on the price."

Just 200 of the Mark IV R32 Golf introduced in Australia in 2004 were sold as a limited edition batch.

But the Mark V R32 was much more popular, selling 2041 over the past four years since it was introduced in Australia in 2006.

The new model has more power and yet uses less fuel. The official 0 to 100km/h time is 5.9 seconds. The previous V6 model stopped the clocks in 6.5 seconds. Consumption has also been slashed, from 10.9L/100km to 8.7L/100km.

The fastest Golf ever built also has the biggest brakes ever fitted to VW's most popular hatchback: 345mm diameter front discs are only 5mm smaller than the front discs on the 2.5-tonne R50 Touareg performance 4WD. In this guise the Golf weighs 1500kg.

As before, the hottest Golf is available as a three-door and five-door. And both models are available with six-speed manual or six-speed DSG.

Volkswagen says 82 per cent of R32 Golfs were equipped with DSG and five-door models accounted for 77 per cent of R32 sales.

Deliveries will begin immediately and Volkswagen says it is already holding a healthy order book -- and that was before the price was announced.

"We have good supply but we expect there will be an increase in showroom traffic now the price has been announced," says Volkswagen Australia spokesman Karl Gehling.

          New Golf R prices

          Three-door six-speed manual $48,490
          Three-door six-speed DSG $50,990
          Five-door six-speed manual $49,990
          Five-door six-speed DSG $52,490

          • [QUOTE="Coreying"][Actually, it was you who made the sweeping statement with "$20k extra for a car that NO WAY will I get to use the full potential on". You didn't clarify what the options were and for anyone that hadn't read the other thread with pricing, your comment seemed a bit misleading. I already had deduced that you were optioning up the R and not the GTI, but I came in to clarify for all those people who maybe hadn't looked at the other thread that with your SPECIFIC options, the price is less than a third that. Can someone please explain to me how being specific in your statements is all of a sudden a sweeping statement?
            /QUOTE]

Yep, fair enough. I thought my post was accurate for what I was trying to say. Obviously not. My apologies for that.

I wasn't trying to compare apples with apples, it was always the options available on the GTI and the options available on the R.

Anyway the message gets confused in the electronic forum.

Maybe you should spend some time researching the things you claim to know "for a fact"

              So .... 210kw/420NM AWD Tiguan against a 188kw/330NM AWD R .... ???? .... with similar weights ..... smell those Tiguan rear lights .....

              or a peaky pre 2009 169kw/320NM WRX and even late 195kw/340NM WRX .... ???

Since when will lesser power and similar weight & traction beat superior power .... ??? LMAO ... I mean against 210kw/420NM from an EA888 GTI engine .... really LMAO

Next time .... do a bit of research before you shoot down anything you don't know .... bet you didn't even know the difference between the R and GTI engines until a knowledgable person like WJ pointed it out ....

                    • Comparing stats on paper is nothing... acceleration and power means squat on a track if you can't stop and accelerate out of a corner. Suspension, wheel and brake setup means quite a bit more in my books, hence why my 1.6L NA Civic can pull faster lap times than most cars on the road including my GTI Pirelli

OT: I think a lot of people are getting too hyped up in the Golf R in my books, I don't think there was this much hype for the MKV R32 when it was released?

That's true and don't forget the R32 & R are very similar stock for stock.

It's just about who's got the biggest e-penis.. people should just see who has the biggest in real life.

Agree its off topic and it wasn't my intention .... I gave the opinion that the R standard was slower compared to our Tiguan based on the fact that I drove to the dealership in the Tiguan (all 210kw/420NM of it), testdrove the R (agreed with most of WJs comments) and then drove home in the Tiguan again. And there was no FWD v AWD argument to sway the opinion.

As far as I know that is a fair way to make a comparison .....

Then you get people who have no knowledge or experience in what the tuned VWs are capable of (or even what their stock specs are), unlike those of us who have done so many times (and I'm on my 4th tuned VW now) who ridicule a perfectly valid comparison.

I meant to say I suppose, that if I did get the R I ordered in Feb 2009 now, I would have driven it straight to APR (while the sale is on) and would have had it at 239kw/430NM ..... so as not to get embarrassed by my leadfooted wife at the lights ....
