Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Agreed

Regarding reviews, lack of all credibility when a fool compares an auto with a manual on a track. Pretty much applies to anyone using it as a reference as well

    • Twins -v- Mark 7 Golf

Choice of gearbox will not affect handling/chassis tune, unless you're buying a Golf where front springs on DSG will be slightly firmer. The FT86/BRZ will have to compete with this:

      • So WJ, where is you head at is you were going to drop $35k on a 2nd car.. the BRZ slugbox or a 1 year old Megane..? I mean both are going to be stupid cheap 2nd hand cars, though because all the wannabe boy racers will have thrashed the F86/BRZ you would stay away from.. the Megane would be a better spend cause of the high entry cost.

Track comparison of two vehicles with different transmissions (manual vs auto) is foolish to say the least (referring to the youtube video posted). Even moreso when comparing FWD to RWD. That is putting aside the price differential of the two vehicles mentioned

No, it doesn't. Different price bracket completely.

            • Screw the price brackets ... when it comes to WJ dollars $$$ ... both are very real competitors.
The MK7 Golf GTI should have a lot more kit as std (i.e. Dynamic Cruise, 18" wheels std, lane keeper, LSD, etc) making it better value. Add in a strong AUS dollar and cheaper built cost by virute of MQB platform ... it may well be the case that price rises over Mark 6 Golf are minimal, if any price rise at all.
              Cheers.

              • So if price isn't a factor why did you get a GTI ????

Someone must have hacked WJs account

                • The 86 looks better (a lot better)

The 86 is RWD, a lot more fun

The 86 is cheaper (a lot cheaper)

Still, different vehicle class so silly comparison

Just shows what a great little car this is from Toyota.

We may trade the Fiesta in.

                  • Because it excels in every Endeavour. Because the Golf R is not sufficiently better than the GTI to warrant spending any more. This may be the case with the twins. Oh yeah ... Don't forget the EA888 motor in the GTI.
                    Cheers.

                      • See, if I had WJs unlimited wealth I wouldn't compromise on the all rounder GTI

I'd have at least a 1M in the garage, maybe a Lotus. Maybe an Ariel Atom III

The GTI excels at nothing but does well in all. The R, for those who have the cash, steps it up a notch and outclasses cars costing $15k more

I owned a GTI, I can poke myself anytime I want

                            That sounds nasty, scratch that.
