FWIW, the Megane RS is a great car, very very entertaining, moreso than the GTI & R in my own driving experiences.

Infact, it ran my current car close to winning a spot in my driveway. GTI & R, whilst nice, competent, lovely, all that.. Not a patch. Even with my 'working for a VW-owned company' discount, they still weren't in the final running.

In the end, each to there own. I bought what I bought, due to it tickling my pickle the most.

Handing out infractions/bans for mentioning a different(and/or better, depending on what you want out of it) brand car ain't going to help the wider view of GTI/R owners in the community

        • Seems that way Fab.

Back on topic, if I can remember what it was after all that trash talk

I am so bloody happy I went with the R over the GTI. The car continues to impress, especially in this wet weather.

Our MKV pales into insignificance. The one redeeming feature of the GTI was its ability to be a little more nimble. However, the rest is overwhelmingly in favor of the R

            • I doubt that I would buy a Renault in the near future, but I would certainly not class Renault as a crappy manufacturer

              • RS250 ****s on the VW's for driving connection/thrills and cornering ability, we should all know that.
But you dont spend every minute on a race track or twisty road do you... however; if I lived near the village of Nurburg I would have bought an RS250.

                      • If I'd have been able to justify the price I probably would have gone for an 'R'. I think I'll aim for a mk7 one in about 2/3 years.

It would be fair to say of all the R owners here that none of us can justify the price, but once you have one it is the last thing you think about.

Still spend every waking moment wanting to go for a drive, and as a detailing nut how to get the paint to pop more on an RB

First local review of Sirocco R in not so good Victoria weather conditions. XDL does work very well on public roadway speeds in inclemental conditions once on the move. Probably works better on snow or ice than torque sensing LSD which can only apportion 'available' grip from one side to another. Looks like the Sirocco R has a bit of steering wheel kickback as is the case with the Mark 6 Golf GTI. Kickback was not an issue with the MKV GTI ... maybe its the stiffer chassis & suspension setup of the Mark 6 chassis. See link:

                              • I just did 1700kms in 2 days to cobar and back.

Lots of dirt roads and high speed highway work.

                                Perfect.

My car is now dirty as Hell. Looks awesome like that. Red dirt, bug guts and highway streaks.
