If you spend enough time around here, you will realise that there are many people complaining that it takes too long to get replies to their phone calls and emails. Yet they go into a dealership and then complain that the salesguys are sitting at their desks and not coming out to help them. Well, when do you expect people to reply to their emails and phone calls?! Then there is the endless paperwork and stuff required to get orders into the system, discounts processed (especially corproate etc).

So as I said - it would be nice if when you walked into a dealership, everyone dropped what they were doing and rushed over to you, but realistically, that can't always happen. If you crossed every dealership who someone on this site reported that they hadn't been attended to, there'd literally be no dealerships left to go to
If I didn't say it earlier, I know what it is to have paperwork to do and I don't expect everyone to drop everything for me at all.

I just see endless plaudits here for Volkswagen Dealerships in Canberra, I'm just yet to see it I guess.

Oh well, I guess I'll put the razor blades down and get on the phone to ACA shall I?

So when you get sick of constantly having to remove your iPhone when you get in the car to control it via that, or plug it into a cable, you can simply plug a USB into the car to store your music on that
Got a reply on this from VW (nothing in the brochure/flyer I had) via my motor broker (AVBS, highly recommend).......

There is a now a factory fit option for $550 incl GST which gives you
the features below (haven't seen one yet since we are a few months
      away from the first arrivals).
      Bluetooth Phone Connectivity
      * Available in combination with RCD310/510 radios and RNS510 satellite
      navigation system

      * Only necessary to combine with Multi-Function steering wheel/Display
      (MFD Plus)

      * Generally suitable for all Bluetooth phones - Bluetooth hands free
      profile

      * Bluetooth Audio Streaming - play music directly from phone without
      cables

      * Operation possible via phone, MFD Plus and RCD510/RNS510 touch screen
      units

      * Display of phone book in MFD Plus and RCD510/RNS510 units

      * Module with remote phone pick-up/hang-up

........as I will stick with the iphone, I don't think MDI is necessary.

      • Hey beanie, you see this thread on the MY11 Bluetooth? It was started by me and already contains the information you posted.

But as you know, from the specs you've been told, there is no mention of being able to control the playback of the streaming audio (change tracks, select the songs, etc). In fact this post from simonm confirms that not even the iPhone has that functionality yet.

So that is the reason for the MDI. If you want music playback and want to be able to control the music playback from the cars systems and all those buttons already on your steering wheel, you need the MDI. There is no getting around that yet

Or if you have an iPod with no Bluetooth capability, MDI is the only way to go.

I had the same experience (admittedly it was R launch day so I'm sure things were probably quite hectic), and my father who was with me also got the same vibe that we weren't taken seriously.

However, after seeing the recommendations for Phillip on here, I went and spoke to him and have been very satisfied with my dealings with him so far, so I would suggest giving him a call and arrange a time to go and see him.

            • Well yeah... plus, come time to sell the car, having a USB port to plug in your "whatever device which exists in 3 years time" will be probably just expected by most people.

I'm sure if MDI was a critical issue, you could retrofit later like everything else?

Yep. Would be a but more expensive but the one I retrofitted worked better than the factory fit one lol.

As expected, I was referring to Coreying's comment about resale in 3yrs time!

                          • Just playing with some figures. These are Victorian drive away figures and I probably not 100% accurate so looking for a price check

3 Door DSG Mk5 R32 and no options = $64,675 RRP (Based on price sheet I have from June 09)
                            3 Door DSG Mk6 R and no options = $54,500 RRP
To make these as equal as possible, adding leather to the R...
3 Door DSG Mk6 R with leather and no other options = $57,800 RRP

Assuming my calc's are correct, the drive away RRP of the R in my sig would be ~ $65,650 ?
(3 Door DSG Mk6 R with leather, sunroof, bluetooth, ACC and 19's)

Are my calc's correct or did I fark something up along the way?

The R32 prices came from an old barloworld pricelist I had so assumed they were right given it is listed as driveaway pricing. The R calc's included 33% for every dollar over 57k before stamp duty and rego was added.
