Yeah 0.1m extra is pretty bad.Originally posted by HPSOV View PostMy only gripe so far, the turning circle is rubbish compared to the Subaru.
Golf R = 10.9m

Well I guess I look stupid. But my usual reverse into the carpark turned into a five point ordeal because I kept running out of steering wheel (granted I've only done it twice)2010 MY10 Golf R (Sold) - 5 Door, DSG, Rising Blue, Leather, ACC, Satnav, Dynadio, Sunroof, MDI, Electric Seat.

Well, I just bought an Audi S3 5 door instead. Black with manual. Trip to APR is still on the cards, just need to sell the TT first.Originally posted by DC1 View PostYeh, I was a bit put off. I am basically wanting to buy now (I think - need to drive one), and rang two dealers and said "I want Golf R, you have what I want in stock (colour is not a major issue for me), I am ready to buy now, no trade, no finance - can you do better than full RRP because you are not my closest dealer so if you aren't going to do any better than the guy down the road then we won't waste each others time". The response was "just buy from the local guy - we are not giving anything off". I actually didn't expect much, but nothing was a bit of a shock to be honest.
I currently drive a 2008 Audi TT that I will be selling privately, so I don't want the GTi as it is essentially the same drivetrain (albeit 155kw now). Hence the R - all wheel drive and more power plus 4 doors (and a trip to APR after 2-3,000 klms are done!).
Cheers
Dan
Figured the S3 and R are basically the same car, but I get leather and a few other goodies as well as standard.
Cheers

Yeah the cars probably just feel different, and ACC sports mode makes the steering heavier too (in case it was that).Originally posted by HPSOV

Congratulations, S3 is a great car and still the more superior one and less cost cutting. Either would be good to be honest. Surprising the R's intercooler is smaller than the S3 one (may only be a GTI one).Originally posted by DC1 View PostWell, I just bought an Audi S3 5 door instead. Black with manual. Hey guys. Picked up my R yesterday from Canberra. All I can say is wow. I was a bit 50/50 with the grey, but after seeing it in person in 3 doors I was pleasantly suprised. Now to the recaro's, a must discussed item of debate on this forum.
I just wanna say that they look amazing, its the option that really makes the car that liittle bit special. I have has so many comments already on them and I havent even had the car 1 day. After the 3 and a half hour drive back from Canberra they where fine. They are a bit tricky getting in and out of through, I guess that means they are doing their job properly.
I am ony 21, but I am 6.2 tall and weigh about 90 kgs, and the seats where very comfortable. I have to say though that if you are older, or slightly larger, that the seats are probably not the most practical solution due to the fact that they are very smug, they are not easy to get out of and in the 3 door it is a bit of a pain getting people in the back.
All in all though for my situation they are perfect as I usually only have one other person in the car, and it is only a weekender.
Anyway the guys car is a bit dirty, so i'll post some photos up this week. Oh, and black wheels are going on this week as well, should look amazing.2010 Golf R 3dr, United Grey, DSG, Recaro's , ACC, APR stage 1

Me too!Originally posted by coreying View PostNovember 30 is what was also quoted to me.
Congrats, thanks for the feedback on the Recaros too, two things concerned me is the high gloss back of the Recaros and no seat pockets (I transport my kids around and can see them 1) complaining they have no seat pockets to stuff their junk and 2) see them scratching the hell out of the high gloss) which is why I chose the leather standard seats, plus I'm pushing 40 so the struggle of getting in and out when I drop in to see clients would take the gloss off the RecarosOriginally posted by ganis5 View PostHey guys. As a Mk V R32 owner since 2007 I've been keen to check out the the new R and today took one for a 30 min spin. Unsurprisingly the power delivery reminds of an Audi S3 and once spooled up it has serious go, it is a bit wooden low down which is made more obvious by the R32's instant seemingly on tap delivery, it also does not have anything approaching the rasp of the 6 in the 32. That being said those are the only areas where I feel the 32 has it over the R, in all other areas the R is simply a (marginally) better vehicle IMO. I also played around with the ACC functions and could notice a slight difference in feel as the car seemed to stiffen in sports mode. I've nothing else to report that's not been stated already save to say it's as good as has been reported which is saying a lot given the hype the car has enjoyed.

The R's lag is minimal compared to the Pirelli (which is solved driving in Sport mode). The R's power delivery is very linear for a car with a K04 turbo in Drive mode. A STG1 tune should take care of the little bit of lag that exists below 1000RPM.Originally posted by rath View PostAs a Mk V R32 owner since 2007 I've been keen to check out the the new R and today took one for a 30 min spin.
