Choosing options base on resale seems pointless to me. Leather is ~3k more, over 2-3yrs I've got my value so if they add bugger all at the end who cares. Someone doing race seats probably rationalises it the same. Goes for every other option, DSG doesn't add $2500 in 3yrs im sure but who cares. You buy a new car for you, not the person in 3yrs time.

Exactly. If you're not buying a car which is 100% exactly what you want, then why bother buying a new car? Save yourself thousands and months of waiting time and just get one of the many "almost new" second hand cars that constantly go through the VW dealers. My Golf GTI was 8 months with 8,000 on the odometer. I saved ~$12k from the new price, and VERY lucky for me, it was exactly how I would've optioned the new one anyway. Similar situation with my Polo GTI (although obviously nowhere near the $ figure in saving - haha, I wish!).

I bet that by the time I get my Golf R, there will be some poor sod who over capitalised on their R purchase and that'll be in some VW dealer for a substantial discount on new price - but I'm not willing to compromise on this purchase, hence why I've bought new

      • I was at the dealers yesterday and he told me someone wanted to trade a fully loaded S3.. he would have got 36k so obviously didn't end up trading it.

Just something to keep in mind, not worth over capitalising too much or you can get a better car as well.

        • Not with the same options... so is it really then "better"?
But then this topic just goes around in circles...

          • Why can't manufacturers just make all options standard in their cars? Grrrr!
So the price goes up, at least it saves us (those who can't afford the car when new) the agony of finding a used one that has all the options we want.

Since when is a tradein at a dealer any indication of value anyway and that is a fairly open ended comparison. Could have been a fully loaded 2005 model.

BUT more importantly....what were you doing chatting with the dealer about trade in values? Were you discussing how much your Mk6 GTI is worth for when you take delivery of an R

              • Golf R Seat Options

As im days away from placing my order on the new Golf R, I keep thinking about the different choices of seats.

Now the first option (which is by far the coolest), is the Sparco racing seats. As much i would love to have them, i can not fathom the thought of spending over $5000 on them when the car already comes with seats that will hold you in and do their job haha

Then there is the leather. Have never had leather in a car and would love it! But $3300? Really? Thats pretty bloody steap imo.

So how many out there are about to or already have ordered/bought an R or even a GTI and have faced this dilemma? What was your choice?

                • I would go with the standard leather. For me i have never had leather before. It is not the best quality but i plan on taking very good care of the leather seats. It is expensive but i figured if im purchasing a luxury sports hatch i would like leather. Couldn't justify the Recaro seats as its $5300 + any LCT on top plus i dont plan on racing / tracking the car that often, but they do appear to be beautiful going by pictures i have seen, never sat in or seen in the flesh. The standard cloth seats are pretty good, comfortable and hold you well but if it was me i would probably go leather as i have never had it before.

My biggest problem would be selecting colour. I like:

                  1. Rising Blue with Silver 19's
                  2. United Grey with Black 19's
                  3. White with Black 19's

Any which way their are so many options offered on the Golf R it is difficult to choose.

Good Luck with what ever you choose, im sure it will look fantastic whatever you decide
                  Golf R MKVI Rising Blue | DSG | 5 door | Recaros | ACC | Silver 19's | Dynaudio | RVC | MDI

Welcome to the forums HATE TAX. I've merged your thread into this one, as there has been lots of discussion on that very topic of the motorsports seats vs normal seats in the last several pages.

$3300 doesn't really seem that unreasonable to me considering it's covering front seats (including seat backs) and rear seats, door trim, and arm rest. Also included is individual front seat heating and electric lumbar support.

The standard leather is fairly nice, and not that keen on the stock R seats (but i do have and like the Jacky cloth in the GTI).

Up to you if you think it's worthwhile.

Cheers mate. I myself am going with the white colour and black wheels. With all the gloss black partson the car i believe it will just flow really well!

You make a valid point. I was not aware it included heated seats and lumbar support?? Dealer failed to mention this. Is that confirmed?

Sure is. It's been that way on Golf R/R32 and GTI in MK6 and MK5 models (and maybe earlier models, but I wasn't on the VW scene then!)

Ahh ok! Definitly makes it more worth while then. Cheers mate but I still think ill spend that $3300 on performance upgrades (APR chip etc )

0-100km/h in 5.2-5.4s that's pretty fast, even faster than oversea R times.

There’s nothing quite like the launch of a proper hot hatch to get the adrenalin pumping
