  • Exactly. Overseas pricing models are not relevant here where the R is very aggressively priced, and cars like BMW's and Audi's are pushed out of direct price comparisons due to the Luxury Car Tax we have.

Styling comments are neither negative or positive, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder (I seem to be saying that a lot lately!).

Standard seats - fair enough... white material will always get dirty quicker. Boot space - again, completely true, there isn't much you can do about that.

How on earth ANY Volkswagen fan can think that the R not being as lairy and "look at me" as a WRX or a Focus is a negative thing is beyond me. If I wanted a lairy car, I wouldn't be looking at Volkswagens, I'd be getting the damn Focus RS or a WRX etc. The fact that the R is refined and so well balanced is why I, and I'd say most others, are purchasing it!

    • +1 Corey.

I'm saving my first WRX/STI purchase for a 2nd/3rd car during my midlife crisis in ~15-20 years.

Same here, my choice of white/black wheels is already pushing the envelope of lairy LOL

Oh quick question, are the 8P S3 buckets identical to what is fitted in the R's? I found a car to go have a look at so I can decide once and for all!

Only if you get a used one. Rumours have it that the current WRX and EVO are the last of their breed. The next WRX is rumoured to lose AWD and EVO X is rumoured to be the last of it's kind.

They're similar, but not the same.
Various Audi owners/dealers claim that they're much more comfortable than the Golf ones too - but I've never done a side by side comparison (apart from to the standard seats for each respective car, in which case I prefer them anyway).

Ah crap, so I might love them in the S3 and still not be close. Wonder if I send an email to those VWA execs again....lol

EDIT, found this on the Recaro website....look slightly different on the upper half of the seat but the base looks the same. Also have same features. hmm

              • Recaros are out for me. Drove a 3dr S3 with the seats, might not be 100% identical but close enough. After 10-15mins I could feel my lower back starting to give me grief. While 45mins in the standard leather seats had zero issues.

If it was a weekend car only, I'd suck it up because yes they are awesome. But I can't justify a compromise in comfort or usability for a daily driver. And I suspect having to slide in between the bolster and wheel in my desired driving position would eventually give me the ****s.

IMO if you have a short drive to work or use P/T and its only a weekend warrior then the Recaros are without a doubt the #1 option. But for a daily driver? epic fail. (Remember I said IMO)

Good idea trying the S3 seats, I haven't had any luck with the dealers in Queensland in regards to trying the recaros out. It's sad that they seem to not be entirely comfortable in long journeys as I do a lot of driving as my girlfriend lives an hour from me and hasn't got a car. Maybe I'll have to go with just the normal leather as well. I really do hope to sit in the real thing first before deciding.

                  • I've done 30000k+ in an Audi S3 with the optional Recaros, including thousand k interstaters, and arrived as good as at the start.
To each his own I guess, but I rate the Recaros highly. No problems whatsoever.

Comfort is a personal thing. What is comfortable for 10 hours straight for one person, can give another person pain in 15 minutes or less. This is why I urge anyone to not just assume they'll like the Motorsports seats and ensure they test them before spending the ~$7400 on them.

Can't agree more, so still no final decision for me, but it is very difficult to track down a car with the seats and sit in it for a meaningful amount of time at the moment, so I'll be doing a lot more thinking and ultimately may have to decide on an educated guess from all the information I can gather on this forum.

I wish I could say the same, but as Coreying said we're all different. I want them but I know I'll regret it.

How do they work out being $7400 if you don't go over the LCT threshold?

They are nice to look at but probably not worth it, you'd be disappointed later when you can't sell it for any more than a standard car (but plenty of people on the forums would want to buy/swap them).

                              • Well, with many of the people's configs here, they'd be in LCT territory, how much would depend on the discount the dealer is offering
