  • Just looking at this pic Corey the rear seats come in the same 'San Remo’ Microfibre / Vienna leather appointed upholstery combination (not 'combination Kyalami black cloth and San Remo microfibre' rear seats).

My point the other day is it's fairly good value compared to leather for $3,300. I'd chose it with a 5dr R (may be a bit restrictive in a 3dr and hard for people to get in the back with the big seats)...

I decided to do a massive update to my "Car Pricing Calculator Spreadsheet" which I've maintained for my own purposes, increasing it's functions so that it can be used to simultaneously show you the exact RRP for your configuration and "onroads" as well as show you what the discount you've been able to negotiate equates to once all the onroads are accounted for.

I've also updated it when a "State Selector Drop-Down Box" which adjusts the spreadsheet for all 8 States and Territories. It automatically switches to the correct stamp duty calculation and then provides either the direct costs for Rego/CTP Insurance (or your State's equiv)/Plate, or the links to calculate these.

On a "completely unoptioned Golf R", the resulting figures of this spreadsheet match the Volkswagen website pricing to within $100 (as prices can vary on post code and age and the exact dealer delivery average, it's impossible to get it 100% accurate as the site doesn't break down the costs they use for calculation). But to give you an idea of how accurate this is, QLD is only 1c out as pricing in QLD is the same no matter the post code or driver.

Compared to actual dealer quotes (mine, and the few which have been scanned onto these forums), it's 100% accurate - although I must put in the disclaimer that some of the states have "interesting" stamp duty and rego/insurance/plate conditions (WA & SA & NT) and I can't find any info on the internet which shows the price of standard plates in ACT.

So if anyone notices any errors etc, feel free to PM me and I'll make the appropriate changes.

Great work on the calculator, I'll post an update with the WA details for rego etc once I order mine

I'd rather buy the VW, save my $20k, and go on a very cool holiday

Yeah - I got your point the other day. They DO look good, don't get me wrong, and I guess the $5300 isn't too bad since they do change the rear seat too. But to me they look better than they feel, and at over 10% of the total value of the car, I can find other ways to spend the money

          • looks as if it turns it into a 4 seater..

i imagine that's a "show car", or is the interior lighting on the b pillar and rear roof line????
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....

I'm a MkV and Pirelli owner and I love the new R. Just noticing several MKVI GTI owners dissing the new R since its launch that's all.

There were compelling reasons to do so. e.g. the MK6 looks

BTW - the R is a Mk6. So you have Mk6 owners dissing their own kind now. wierd....

Haha, this might normally be the case, but after 3 years+ our GTI is faultless by and large. Every now and then there's a squeak from the dash, but that's happenend no more than 5-6 times over the life of the car. The S3, on the other hand, has minor squeaks/rattles from the passenger door and passenger seat headrest. They're not major by any means, but just enough to be moderately annoying. And certainly moreso than anything in the Mk5.

                        • So I went to have a look today.

I could only look through the window.

What sort of dealership is closed every Sunday?

                          Shame Central Coast Motor Group.

                          • One big plus for the Golf R over the S3 (if these options float your boat) is that you can get a 3dr R with DSG. Last time I looked the S-tronic was only available on the S3 Sportback.

I find the 6spd manual in my S3 really nice to use once you are moving, but on fast launches in particular, I find the change from 1st-2nd really hard to get bang on smooth. No problems there with DSG, of course.

Might be like the Canberra dealers who have (I believe) a gentleman's agreement not to trade on Sundays.
