Thanks for the pricing info and pics guys! Now what to get, Black with Black 19's could be the go, though the Blue and Grey with the alloy coloured 19's looks great too!

Decisions, decisions, I was leaning down the path of low km R32 but the pricing of the R is too good and that out of the 4 dealers who I sent inquiries on Carsales only 1 called me and wouldn't move too much on the price and didn't want to help with trading in the Mazda!

So I may have to order an 'R'

My guess is CarAdvice saw it on AUSmotive. Like they did when the first 3dr R was spotted in Freo and I had the pics up. CA is generally pretty good, but they're not the best at acknowledging other motoring sites, haha.

Did you honestly expect anything else from them?

Yeah, there are a lot on there. The people that want over 50k will be waiting a long time and may not even sell it.. I wanted to get rid of mine quick before the new ones were out.

is the pricing official and where did it come from - coreyring do you work for volkswagen??? you seem to post very frequently .. I'm surprised this thread wasn't locked down - remember the Tiguan pricing thread?? I think someone needs to come clean re the facts. pricing is not on the VW website.

I pick up my new R36 tomorrow.
Hope I don't prefer the Golf R if I see one in the metal.
The std seating looks awesome in the photos. The R36 could do with a lift like that

Why doesnt the R come standard with leather, like the MKIV, MKV?

I dont see myself trading in my MKV R for this...

Look forward to seeing them on the road

Yeah that's disappointing but it's more of an AWD GTI than an R vechicle like the R32, R36 & R50 which carry more prestige.

Having said that, most people would appreciate the cheaper price and get cloth. Best idea is to wait till the hype dies down and when there are greater discounts available, as at the moment there is no margin on them.

The R doesn't come standard with leather because apparently many people don't like leather, although I have no idea why (kidding, I can understand their reasons!). But regardless, the R is a full $7,000 less than the R32 was. Plus it also includes front & rear PDC (rear only PDC was $800 on the R32) and includes factor tint on rear side and rear windows ($400 value), so you're already $8,200 in front of what the R32 was. So after you add in your $3,300 for leather (or ~$4,400 if you have a really high spec'd where the full cost of the seats would be subject to LCT), then you're STILL $4,900 (or $3,800) in front.

Now, these are obviously before onroads. Due to the far lower starting price, you're going to pay much less LCT and Stamp duty anyway - so the on-road costs of the Golf R are going to be an even greater saving over the on-road costs of an Golf R32 than the figures I've posted above!

So they can achieve a good price point, I guess. If you want leather, then, yeah, it's a waste of time, but the standard seats are pretty nice so I reckon there'll be a few that will be happy to save the money, or spend what would have been used for standard leather on other options.

The pricing is official. I called around Volkwagen dealers until someone gave me the price. It wasn't a sales person I spoke to, so maybe they weren't aware that they weren't supposed to give me the price. I got lucky. Many refused to as they should.

I don't work for Volkswagen nor have any affiliation with them or any other sponsor of this site. I'm just a Golf enthusiast who is in the position to read everything in the MK6 forum, pass on the knowledge I learn from all the posts that all you guys contribute, and from my own reading/experience/interests, and the (limited) time to try and keep the MK6 forum organised and clean.

You can't really include the dark glass as it's crap, and costs as much as it would cost to do your whole car with better film that actually does something for UV protection. If anything you still have to spend money on front tints and clear UV tint on all the rear windows, and it's hard to find tint that matches anyway.

It was a risk I was willing to take. I left it fairly late and there were still a lot for sale but could be harder now that a new R isn't any more than what some peopel are trying to get for their R32. I wouldn't be surprised if R32 values drop further but not many cars hold their value anyway. You still lose out with depreciation on the new one but plan to keep this a lot longer and was a bit bored with my basic model R32.

Anyway who knows, the R32's may hold their value if people think the new R is crap, but doubt they would ever go up in value and the market is flooded with them.

You don't have to tint the whole car, just the two front windows in this case - $130-140 cost. So it is a saving. Not a big saving but still a saving nontheless.

The privacy tint is still blocks UV so you don't have to do the rear windows. Some tint guys try to sell you transparent UV blocking film which is unnecessary. My tint guy said that what they said is just bollocks.
