MkV GT TSi : 7.5l / 100km, 125kWOriginally posted by triode12 View PostWhy didn't they just use the same tune as the GTs and GTSports? They didn't have any issues. "if it ain't broke...don't fix it"
 MkVI 118 TSi : 6.2l / 100km, 118 kW

They've leaned out the injection cycles a LOT without much detuning when converting the engine from use in a "sports" model to a common model to give it more appeal to the normal person. The reduction in fuel use results in increased combustion temperatures and pistons will burn before anything else (anyone else remember all the blow ups when refuelling was banned during the F1 1.5 litre turbo era in the 1984).
An aftermarket tune probably resolves this problem better than the VW revision.

But why weren't they caught by the service campaign?Originally posted by fully View PostThose reports are old and both relate to 2009 models.Resident grumpy old fart

Well 14 months and 27,000 k's since the engine was replaced and software was updated it has gone and **** itself again! This time without warning from
The vibration on idle I got last time, just went while I was driving. Same problem though. Loss of compression in cylinder 3. I only ever feed the car 98 and funnily enough while the first engine lasting 18,000k's was mainly short driving, barely warming up. This engine has mainly been long haul highway driving.

Many others had two engines replaced?
