Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

I have been incredibly impressed with VWAs customer service. I'm raving on about to everyone who will listen, so well done you VWA!!
I just picked up my 2010 Golf, good as new. I had a hire car for over a month. All paid for by VW. You have my faith back in the brand VWA! I look forward to upgrading in the future.

I purchased my 2010 VW Golf TSI118 in February 2015 with 68,000kms on the odometer from a highly reputable car dealership in the ACT. I have be extremely pleased with the car, even considering upgrading to a new model in the near future. I have used premium fuel 100% of the time and have had it serviced twice a year at the dealership.
Last week, only 2 weeks after my last scheduled service (5 May), the car started shuddering in idle mode and in low gear. I booked it into the dealership to have it checked over on Monday (22 May). I was then told that 2 of the cylinders had compressed and that a new engine was needed. As the car has only driven 100,000 kms, had a solid service history and has run on premium fuel only I find this absolutely unacceptable. Looking into this issue, I have found out this is a global problem for these faulty engines. The Service Manager at the car dealership contacted Volkswagen Australia (VWA) but was told there was no recall and I would be up for over $7000 to replace the engine - this is money I absolutely do not have.
I would be much appreciated if VWA will accept my goodwill claim in repairing the engine free of charge. I have faith that VWA's customer satisfaction is a top priority and I can continue to enjoy owning VWs in the future.
I expect to hear back from VWA within 3 working days with a solution or I will be making a formal complaint to the ACCC and the consumer protection agency.

VW Golf 118 TSI 2012 Engine Issues. Please help
Recently brought a second hand VW golf 118 TSI 2012 from a car yard in december at 35000 kms. Purchased less than 5 months old.
Got a service done recently just before 50,000kms at VW and have been told by 2 different mechanics that i need a whole new engine replacement.
Was driving and the engine light was flickering on and off and then it stayed on completely. Whilst i was driving the ECP light had come out and then almost starting thumping.
Took it to VW for them to check and the report they gave me states
"Checked and found engine running rough and engine light on. Found coes with missfire, carried out compression tests on vehicle and found low compression on all cylinders. Cyl 1: 0 Bar, Cly2; -6 Bar, Cyl3 : 5 Bar Cyl4 - 6 Bar.
Few mechanics have said theres no way to fix this or that can garauntee that it will fix the issue other than a whole engine replacement.
Has anyone else had this issue or heard of anyone having this issue?
Can anyone she'd some light on this.

Mmm that's what I thought been reading on it a lot... it's not even hit 50,000kms and it needs an engine replacement. How is that even possible...
There's a consumer law though apparently Consumers' rights & obligations | ACCC
I will be contacting both the car yard and VW about it to try and get them to fix it or give me my money back...

Hi I am new to this board, just bought my used golf VI 118tsi about a month ago, now it has this check engine light on. I used VCDS to pull up the error code and i have a p0016 which suggests timing is off and mechanical error. But the car drives fine and there's no error codes for compression. I got it booked in with VW village tomorrow, can anyone give me a rough idea on what the damage is gonna be? I searched and i believe i saw 900 bucks to replace the chain and tensioner. Also for the worst case scenario, if the engine is gone, wouldn't it spit out other codes too?

Ok i just got a quote from VW village. The timing chain has stretched, all up parts and labour, with the water pump as they recommended is 1750. And the clutch is on the way out too, there goes another 1800. Information for those who are looking to at them fixed, that's the kind of figures you will be staring at.

It's a 2010, with only 57000 on the odo. I am the 2nd owner of this car, came with a full service history(not at the dealer), and not too sure how the previous owner treated the car. But now i think i know why he/she wanted to get rid of it, cheap lol. Like i got the car through an auction, so plus all these repair costs it's actually cheaper than the ones on the market. But it's just hard to belive so much went wrong with only 57000km....but who knows, i read on the forum ppl r getting their clutch replaced at 25000km or so.Last edited by drmitseng; 08-09-2017, 12:00 PM.
