  • The engine is running in its "fail mode" or whatever you want to call it.
Switch back to the factory ECU and see whether the problem is still there, and if so, stop driving immediately and call VW Assist and get it towed to the dealer.

There are NUMEROUS things this could be, including actual damage to your engine. Have you had the 24S4 dealer service campaign performed on your car?

    • Engine rough!

      Hi all,

Over the past couple of days my poor lil dubbers engine has started to become very rough, idling is appalling and bumpy. On light throttle take offs their tends to be quite a bit of vibration (like faster paced rough idling, almost like a boxer engine lol) From time time i've noticed it hesitating lately also, the supercharger not chiming in at low revs till late, or you can hear it but take a bit to feel the boost, not instantly as it was.

Anyone else come across such problems, I'm worried I'm headed for engine failure even with the re-mapped ECU. Hoping its just a fouled plug or something.

Sounds like a visit to the dealer Stoney. BTW your sig shows ODO at last fill 2555km. This sounds very low for a 12 month old car, or is it 25,550?
        Anyway,hope its a minor problem.

I've got a vibration that has started in mine too. Seems to be on or shortly after 2nd gear is selected. Also there in revese when going up the incline on our driveway. I'm pretty sure mine is a DSG problem though. I have it booked in for 30,000 service end of next week and will get the VW tech to go for a drive with me. Hopefully a DSG reset or at worst a mechatronics issue.

Any engine warning lights coming on Stoney?

Unfortunately no, at least if there was I'd know it was logged!

              • My car can feel a bit rough some days when it's cold, but not vibration that I've noticed...

Did the dealer ever find the problem with your car being noisy at startup?

                • This sounds as though it could be related to the 24S4 Service Campaign. Even with the update, there is still the potential for issues due to damage that already occured prior to the update being applied.
I'd be heading to the dealer asap...

                  • I called VW assist last night and she said not to drive it unless I had to, if I got a warning light to pull over immediately and call them back to arrange a tow.

I Rang the service centre to but it rang out 5 times to I rang sales and he asked me to send him an e-mail of the fault and he will try and get on to them.

                    • , About a month a go my friendly vw mechanic told me i needed 2 new O2 sensors,- the car seemed to be running ok at the time so i thought i'd leave it and do some research.
From what i could discover 8 times out of 10 it was dirty contacts or they just needed to be cleaned or some other sensor was faulty, so it went into the too hard basket.
Then as I was setting off for Sydney about a week ago I noticed the engine was starting to idle roughly and as the week progressed it just got worse - I should have replaced those sensors, and then after explaining the problem to my son he informed me that if the sensors were faulty the computer would have assigned them default values , and since it didn't miss while under acceleration it wasn't spark plugs or injectors.
This morning i discoverd a vacuum leak in the evap canister line which is hard plastic and has a corrugated section to allow it to bend - right where the corrugations start it was split , with any luck this is probably the reason the computer claimed the O2 sensors faulty.
This engine has so many vacuum lines and sensors it's scary and i think i was extremely lucky to find it, I could have spent Thousands and been no better off. This time it was a piece of duct tape
So there is a moral to the story CHECK YOUR VACUUM LINES FOR LEAKS

                      Cheers
                      David

                      • Got it into Volkswagen today and one of the mechanics said the idle was terrible. He said he just needed to put it into the workshop to hook it up. As he reversed back I ran over and said "dude it was just blowing smoke", to which he replied "yeah i don't have a good feeling about this one".

5 minutes later he came back and said I need a new engine. Should have her back in 3 weeks. However they didn't have nay hire cars and they basically left it at that. I gave my sales manager a call told him it needed a new enigne to which he replied with profanity lol and said he'll be down with a new jetta in 5 min. Top marks to bill buckles sales department!

Did he say whether it was getting fault codes or anything, or it was just obviously stuffed?

                              • Bad luck mate. But as Coreying and others have already said at least a) its under warranty & b) you have a good relationship with your salesman. I'm a little worried about our DSG as the two sales people I was involved with when I bought mine have both left not only the dealership but also VW's
