Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Is it labelled in the MFD as "safe locking" or did you guys just go on my explanation? My explanation could have been wrong... lol

Okay so from the manual (haha I used the reference) pg27 of S3, its called Door Opening, this can be set to Auto Lock and Auto Unlock which means:

Auto Lock the doors are locked at a speed of approx 15km/h
Auto Unlock ht edoors are unlocked when the ignition key is removed from the ignition lock.

So maybe its a rename? not sure

Maybe. I guess that's another one of those things that we'll figure out in the next month or so.
I know that there are MK6 people that were complaining that they couldn't find the Auto Lock/Unlock feature. I'm not sure if it's because it's not there on the lower models, on the older builds, or whether they just couldn't find it...

Yeah, I couldn't find it initially but couldn't remember if it was because it's been renamed or in a different location, or if i enabled it in VCDS.

Found a video of the US MY11 GTI 'AutoBahn' Package.

YouTube - ‪2011 VW GTI @ Autohaus of Peoria, Peoria, IL‬‎
It features button start, different head unit (RNS 350), etc.

Again, please note that this is for the US market only.
But... you can see the different steering wheel button logos.

Just something to look at

Steve

Yeah aren't incomes crap in the US as well as a struggling economy? Does seem like we pay a big premium here for all car stuff though.

The US consumer has a long history of paying less for cars. The enormous consumer power over there, coupled with significant volumes that make large margins less important, mean manufacturers can - and often do - bend over backwards to get that sticker price low. Just look at the new Jetta (with its low-grade plastics, ordinary rear suspension, and other downgrades allowing it to compete in a huge segment around the AUD20k mark plus taxes) as a good example.

It's been hypothesised that the profits of more lucrative markets (Europe, the UK, Asia, Australia) go towards subsidising the loss-making US operations of many manufacturers, all in the name of promoting the brand for future larger volumes and profitability.

This tangent occurs in almost every thread where someone mentions a US specification... it's not the place for it. Please start a thread in General Discussion if you'd really like to discuss the ins and outs of the US economy and living there...

Dont know about the US VW selling cars at a loss.. Big Volume x Loss could not sustain Little Volume x Little Profit.

Also according to my dealer this year the US sold 431000 cars of VW, where we in AUS bought around 37000..

I agree re the "Me too" technical spec to suit what the USA market expects.
European specs (Apart from some bells and whistles) appear aimed at motoring finess, rather than just a nice interior.
I consider Europe for cutting edge design.
USA bulk market for "Me too"
