Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Why would they release the GTD with the RCD 510 and drop the GTI back to the RCD 310? And why would they fit the pov pack RCD 310 to the GTI when it has upper spec equipment to differentiate it?

As I posted elsewhere, apparently there was an idle period in manufacturing around april/may believed to be associated with a shift in the GTI plant - moved from Wolfsburg to another plant in Germany. Also apparently some parts supply delay issues.
Sounds like absolute BS to me, don't you think this would have been reported elsewhere? The union did a deal for Golf production at Wolfsburg, the fitout cost was huge for the Mark VI and to move production to another plant would cost a fortune with extensive downtime.

Parts supply is also BS, if they have a shortage of a part they manufacture cars that don't have that part, ie a shortage in RNS 510's a few years back caused cars getting them fitted to be pushed back a few months.

Sounds like the salesman is feeding you BS.

I work for an automotive manufacturer and what you say is not correct. Parts supply/delay issues have varying effects depending on what the parts are. If it's parts that need to be fitted to a car that has a follow on impact of other parts that need to be fitted but cant until the missing parts are fitted, then it will delay the build. If they are parts that dont have a flow on effect, the car can be built and the missing ones fitted later. EG, a wiring loom for the car versus indicators.

I'm well aware that parts supply issues can delay cars however I am talking specifically about the Golf which is VW's biggest selling car having one earlier this year that caused delays to all models and there is no mention of this anywhere including Volkswagen's press area, media releases or any forums.

A delay of a week or two to production of the Golf will cost Volkswagen substantial amounts of money and is not something that would go unnoticed.

The fact that some dealers have answered some unrelated questions about Model Year explanations and remained silent on matters relating to spec does not necessarily mean that they "accept" that what's stated about spec by others is indeed true. Those dealers who have commented about spec have presented their view in an abbreviated view.
If you want to take the only list give that looks plausible, literally, then you'd also raise question/doubt over Fog Lights as well.

I guess that we'll find out when someone actually gets their hands on the first MY11 in Oz.
Fergus, let me spell this out for you so it is very clear.
There has been NO interpretation by me. The list was supplied by dealers, who were supplied it by Volkswagen Group Australia, viewed by myself, and now viewed by other members (such as stevie_t). If you want to argue further, do it in a PM to me, any further posts arguing the fact by you will be deleted to maintain the integrity and usefulness of this thread as a resource by other members of this forum. Unless you have something concrete and issued by Volkswagen Group Australia that you wish to scan in and post on this thread to prove that all the other dealers are incorrect, then just stop it.

If VW was intending to downgrade the standard stereo to a 300/310 unit in the GTI then the 510 would then appear as an official option at the same time.

The Polo has the RCD510 as an upgrade option... it would be silly if the Golf GTI didn't

To confirm what Coreying has stated. When I first post my Abbreviated View way back in May / June we are informed by VGA for your eyes only. As Keeping my job is importent to me I need to breif in descriptions as I am sure you understand Toffee Brown new to Golf Wagon I noticed yesterday. . MY11 are now in country including TIGS and Golf with the Blutooth. My first Passat CC V6 2011 arrives today happy happy days. Arriving on truck today the MY11 tig Diesel DSG will look forward to driving the 7speed. Can let you know how goes if you like.

PS I am not aware of a RCD-510 head unit change from GTI. They have only just changed them to suit our local Aussie market..

The 'ESP off' light on dash display is the "2nd ESP lamp in instrument cluster" change. Basically they're separating the "ESP intervening" and "ESP off" into two separate lights.
For what it is worth, my Golf (Build date of May 2010) has the safe locking feature in the MFD - that is the doors now lock at about 15kph) as it's one of the features I activated via the MFD when I got the car.

I suppose this could be linked to the options on the car, but it exists in my 2010 MY car. That's if this Safe locking feature is the same thing?

Great news Phillip, is there any word as to whether it will be available as a dealer retrofit for MY11 Golfs?

Philip - Are you saying that the Bluetooth is included in MY11 spec for any particular model as standard now or is it still an option ? From what you describe it's features to be, it sounds like it is the new 9W7 Bluetooth module.

It's an option, but unlike the previous $2000+ "dealer accessory", it's a $550 factory option now.
And whilst it's similar to the 9W7 in features, it's actually the 9ZB Bluetooth module.

Yeah I can confirm that on the GTI, and mine is an MY10 (2009 build) it has the 'safe locking' function within the MFD as standard as I have this enabled.

Maybe its a MY11 change on non-GTI models perhaps?
