In WA, the dealers use the Compliance Date to value the cars. In NSW at least they use the build date. But that's not the topic of this thread...

MY2011 GTI Specifications
Hi everyone
I just ordered a new GTI Mk6 5Dr DSG. I had written into the contract that the vehicle must be MY2011. For those interested, the Dealer has confirmed that for Australia, there are NO spec changes at all from MY2010. Build of MY2011 apparently commenced in July 2010.
All the stories about stereo downgrades and inclusion of smart key / push button start are for other overseas markets and not Oz.

Hi fergus. I've merged your thread into this one. Model years are refered to as MYxx - so that's probably why when you searched you didn't find this thread. Your dealer is also correct that MY11 has already started, so any new Golf manufacturered now is an MY11.
However, it's complete rubbish that there are no spec changes, as this thread details. Having said that, the changes are fairly minor and will go unnoticed by most.

Yep, as Coreying said - there are changes, but minor.
This you tube video seems to show the MY11 change in the steering wheel buttons, as well as the US equivalent of the new factory bluetooth option on the MY11. Click the video on the right hand tab titled: " 2011 Volkswagen Bluetooth 9W7 sneak"
The rest of the slight changes are mentioned in these and other web threads for gti:
• Hill Start Assist on Manual
• Safe Locking on MFD
• 'ESP off' light on dash display
• New logo on right side steering wheel buttons (as per youtube video)
• New factory bluetooth option (likely, as per youtube video
I may have missed something else.

Your dealer is wrong. Please ask him to check the VW bulletins.
I asked him to double check and he did read the bulletins. He told me that there was MY11 changes for some models but zero for GTI.
Also, can you explain:
• Safe Locking on MFD
• 'ESP off' light on dash display

Fergus, the changes listed in this thread, come straight from (multiple) dealers, so there is no question that these changes include the GTI as well.
Changes applying to the GTI include:
Hill Start Assist (HSA) is now standard for all manual models
New ordering code (RKZ) for the RCD510 radio (with Dynaudio 9VE) option
Optional Bluetooth phone connectivity is now available (The 9ZB "MY11 Bluetooth" mentioned elsewhere)
Additional MFD feature – SAFE locking
2nd ESP lamp in instrument cluster
Symbol change for MFD buttons on steering wheel
Mute function in OPS and RVC screen for acoustic parking sensor warning
In relation to your most recent post, I believe that the "Safe Locking on MFD" is the ability to turn on and off the auto lock feature of the doors (i.e. drive away and when you past ~15kph the doors lock) rather than requiring the dealer to perform this change. The 'ESP off' light on dash display is the "2nd ESP lamp in instrument cluster" change. Basically they're separating the "ESP intervening" and "ESP off" into two separate lights.

Guys
What makes you so sure that those changes are applicable to Australia ? I put that and other changes to the dealer and he was adament that they were overseas markets and VWA have advised no changes for Oz. Have you got something else that's tangible from VWA that disagrees with what I have been told ?

These changes are Australian specific, and come from MULTIPLE Australian dealers from Volkswagen Group Australia. Hence why I am 100% confident that your dealer is mistaken, because if you look back in pages 2 and 3 of this thread there are two Australian dealers (different dealerships, companies, states) who have contributed and have not corrected the list. These two dealers are also not the multiple dealers who supplied/confirmed the list.

I've re-read what you referred to and I think that based on what is in this thread, you are basing your view on interpretation and asumption. The fact that some dealers have answered some unrelated questions about Model Year explanations and remained silent on matters relating to spec does not necessarily mean that they "accept" that what's stated about spec by others is indeed true. Those dealers who have commented about spec have presented their view in an abbreviated view.
If you want to take the only list give that looks plausible, literally, then you'd also raise question/doubt over Fog Lights as well.
I guess that we'll find out when someone actually gets their hands on the first MY11 in Oz.

These new changes that i and the others havementioned in the thread have been things that dealers have also personally told us, the buyer/consumer.
I can speak for myself too - particularly the new bluetooth, new steering wheel button icons, safe locking, 2nd esp light.
Ive seen the update sheet.
But as you said... we will find out when someone actually gets their hands on the 1st MY11 (i hope it comes soon!! Which i know it wont...)

As I posted elsewhere, apparently there was an idle period in manufacturing around april/may believed to be associated with a shift in the GTI plant - moved from Wolfsburg to another plant in Germany. Also apparently some parts supply delay issues.

That info I was sharing was actually straight from a piece of paper I nicked off the dealer regarding Golf MY11 changes
As far as radio changes, no, Australia is not getting the different unit which the US it. (Im pretty sure the new US one is inferior to the RCD/RNS version we get).
Even from when the new MK6 golf/GTI was introduced in the US, it had some things missing (or should i say different to aus and other markets) - some reasons included keeping the GTI at a particular price point, etc.
For this reason, you will notice too that they have changed their MY11 packages also to allow options of more equipment which didnt come with the MY10 version/market.
Hmm, I wonder what this is about the move from Wolfsburg...
Im glad the factory is still in Germany though. But questions spring to mind:
Is it a better factory? Why are they moving production? Are there supply part issues/What are they? Quality?
And so forth.
