Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • $250 is bloody cheap. They wouldn't have made much out of it.

Bank error in your favour by the sounds of things!

If you're prepared to keep using them, then I guess they'll make it all back eventually.

yeh lucas, thats not really applicable to the majority of people tho is it. so no use gloating about it. the fact that u have an "in" makes the pricing attractive. what would the price be for any slob off the street tho? im sure it would be similar to the normal audi servicing rates, which is about $140/hr for workshop rates at the least. plus they charge $25 or $30/ l for the castrol oil, thats 5l min.

i know, as a mate i train with is the service manager at buckles audi in brookvale and he told me the price that he could do a service for and it was about $350 with their oil, if i brought my own oil, then it would drop substantially, but not as cheap as what u pay

        • ^ sorry - im not trying to tick anyone off. I bought my own oil (Liqui-Moly) and that $250 included the price of my oil. The actual service that Audi did was $190.

My point was simply for people to consider getting prices from independant Euro specialast service centres and/or try a Audi dealership.

Just further elaborating on the money that can be saved, our Mazda is due for its 1yr/20k service next week. Mazda want $360 for it, but i found a Mazda specialist who will do the service for approx $190 (approx price given over the phone).

          • I've priced local independants versus dealerships going back to my MKV.

Denlo (my MKV) were excessively pricey versus Bill Buckle (my R) who are close to the independants I got quotes from.

Close enough in price that I prefer to use Bill Buckle plus I know the guys very well and we have an excellent working relationship.

Some independants (personal experience) need to smarten their skill level up (will remain nameless) !

^ Agreed. The classic turn-off for me is when they answer the phone and either dont say what their name is, or sometimes just say "Hello" - dont even say "X Automotive".

                Yep.

I had my service done at Bill Buckle and found them pretty good price wise.

I'm coming up to a 60k service now.

                • There seems to be some confusion that you have to go to VW dealer to have your car serviced to maintain the warranty.
                  This is NOT the case.

You just have to have your car serviced as per the VW Service outline.

I purchased a VW extended new vehicle warranty from a VW dealer when I purchased my 2010 GTI. The warranty is under written by Alliance.

After speaking to Alliance you DO NOT have to go to a VW dealer to have the car serviced.

After comparing VW Dealership service costs to independents - I'll be going to an independent to service my car.

                  • VW Sutherland quoted $420 for 15 000 Km service.

Ended up going to exoticars where they quoted $290.

I wonder what costs $420 to change oil and filter and check ups for a car that has done 7 500 Km hmmm...
At any rate I would recommend exoticars for their great price and they used liqui moly oil too.

                    • Sounds a very reasonable price. I spoke to 3x sydney dealers today and a 15,000km service for a MK6 Golf ranged from $420 - $490 incl GST. I'm all for supporting VW but when compared to an independent - these prices are ridiculous.

                              • Got a special "trade" deal with Paul Wakelings at Campbelltown. I supplied my own oil and the 15000 service cost me $197.00.

It helps when you know one or two people there and help them with some diesel diagnostics.
