Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yes all those "extra option" would be nice i guess but it all depends where you are coming from.
Previous to the Polo I had an e30 bmw that i had done a bit of work to... 2.7i motor, lsd, suspension, etc. was a magnificent car to drive...but a bit basic option wise
When i changed to the Polo the thing that i liked was the few extra creature comforts compared to the e30 ... and it was just as enjoyable to drive
so whilst a couple of those things would be nice - like an armrest - most of those on the list i would either never use or know what they are anyway

I think the later MP3 compatible stereos have track info. Speed sensitive volume is present. Variable speed intermittant wipers
Plenty of storage space.... bins under seats!
Well what one person considers major and others consider minor is up to personal opinion.

In any case, No, the MP3 compatible stereos don't even show 'track time', let alone any other useful information like track title etc. They do have variable speed intermittant wipers, but not speed sensitive automatic wipers. As for there being 'plenty of storage space', the glove box is so small you can't put a standard sized street directory in it, and those underseat bins are so small you can't even fit a CD wallet or jewel case in them. The storage areas in the Polo is the worst of any car I've ever owned.

I didn't say any of them did. Please don't come into a conversation half way and then misquote me. What I was replying to was the 'claim' that the old Polo GTI was equiped to the same levels as the MKV Golf GTI, which it clearly is not. That's all

I mean after all, what does ANY car really need? 4 wheels, a steering wheel, an engine, and some pedals. Anything beyond that is just a bonus.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Polo GTI and I will be sad to let it go when I upgrade to my next car. But lets not fool ourselves, it is what it is, a small, lightweight, relatively basic car with a hell of a good engine. Nothing more, nothing less

I'm looking forward to taking a spin in the new Polo GTI.
On paper it ticks all the right boxes and pulls off the new look better than the new Golf does.

$35k is a rotten price though... IMO needs to be just under 30 with DSG.

Just a caveat that there is no perfect car for everyone. There maybe a perfect car for a specific person as it ticks all the right boxes for that person. To each his own is really apt.

Hard as it is to believe, there are people that would never drive a VW as some other brand suits them perfectly.

And also at different age, you may switch to another brand as your taste & needs change.

The Mk6 definately looks better and has better contours. The MK5 looks like a a mini van.
