Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

This really isn't the place - and it's been discussed ad nauseum before in other threads, but if a rattle and newer is the only thing you've got then I think you need to take another look.
I'm glad that you haven't had any issues with your Pirelli, and most people won't. But you're fooling yourself if you think that the MKV was issues free, as it was famous for it's cabin rattles, and also had various mechanical issues was affected multiple customers.
I had no issues with my MKV GTI either. But the MK6 is still better in many ways, whereas thus far I can't say it's worse in any ways.

OK I'll leave you with this.... isn't the MKVI supposed to be free of rattles - it was supposed to be an improved MkV i.e. MkV.V? Looks like they didn't do a good job of it.

The MKVI also has mechanical issues too, what with the 118TSI engines blowing up. Newer isn't always better.

The MKVI isn't a quantum leap away from the MKV. Improvements were marginal at best (more gadgets for the marketing dept to help sell more cars) and but in other ways the MKVI has gone backwards IMO.

Many who have tried it are just too polite to say so. Unfortunately my candor is a mite blunt. Sorry.

It seems as if a few people are forgetting something. If you'll read my post in the "MK6 GTI - Rattle upon acceleration" thread....

        http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...t=39156&page=4

.... you'll find some links to US forums describing this noise in MK6 GTIs, Audi A3s, Tiguans, Jettas, Sciroccos, and Skoda Octavias. This is a problem with the 2.0 TSI engine - specifically the wastegate on the turbo. So in that respect, is the MK5 GTI better than all those cars?

My GTI has no interior or panel rattles or any other quality issues to speak of.

Yeah - that info has been posted in the Golf R thread

@Triode - look we could go on and old about the MKV vs MK6. The MKV GTI, including your one, had issues with fuel pump cam lobes, DSG mechatronic issues which have been resolved by the time of the MK6, and numerous other mechnical issues.

As Murphy has pointed out, the rattle in the turbo wastegate is affecting mutliple cars and brands as it's specific to the engine.

I still disagree with your comments and that ain't going to change. Yes, the MK6 is a evolutional design instead of revolutional, but it has still improved in so many ways. Others it has stayed the same, and not many at all has it gone backwards.

It also seems that in general the world agrees. The MKV had engine of the year award (for the engine in my GTI, not yours ), but the MK6 has been improved all over the place in such a way that it has won hundreds of awards around the world. The MKV was great, and I have no regrets about owning one. But the MK6 is better. Would I have purchased a MK6 if I still have my MKV, no, as the MKV was already and awesome car. But since I don't have it anymore, there's no reason to not obtain the more superior car

Corey, I guess we just have to agree to disagree. I don't believe the MK6 is the better car - While most things have improved, some of those improvements have taken away a bit of the soul of the car which IMO is a step in the wrong direction. Lets just hope the MKVII doesn't dilute the experience further.

I was looking at MkVs before I decided to go with the MkVI. The interior quality is simply a giant leap forward when compared with the MkV. I couldn't stand how boring the interior of the MkV was and hence decided to cough up the extra $$ for the MkVI (and the time spent waiting), but I would say it's worth it as the interior of the MkVI is such a nice place to be

Totally agree, i was in the same boat as you. I was looking at the mkv and then saw the interior of the mkvi and thought, wow looks so much better. That touch screen radio just makes the car look so much more expensive imo.

Not hard to fit one later, i got an RCD510 for $300 on ebay . Agree the stock RCD510 does look pov in the MK5's.

Anyway i think the new polos look great, giant leap from the current polos and don't look as narrow/tall but would have to see it in the flesh. Still think they would be too small for some people and agree that they aren't really a threat to the Golf, just a cheaper alternative. The styling does appear a bit more modern with the Audi like front end and LED DRL's.

I would have preferred if it had a 1.8T as well, and 6spd DSG. It's odd not to offer 3dr in such a small car either.

This whole Mk5 V Mk6 v Polo discussion has gotten far too complicated, it's a simple argument that can be covered using pictures.

MK5 GTi = old model = Sophia Loren

Polo GTi = Pocket Body Builder

MK6 GTi = hot model = Eva Longoria

Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't the Mk5 made in South Africa while the Mk6 made in the home of VW in Wolfsburg?
