  • I know others have asked and got them thrown in (after all they've just spent a fortune on the car), so I would try that first - you should at least get one thrown in for free. But don't pay $90 for the other cables when you get the same thing on eBay.

    • By default it comes with the USB connector. I got them to add in the iWhore (TM) connector and they put it into the deal. They did actually put it onto the options list at the RRP ($80), but reduced the price of the car accordingly, so I still paid the agreed price.

I'll probably never use the USB connector, but it is with the car and if the iPod ever dies then I'll probably just replace it with a USB stick with music on it.

Yeah when I took delivery there already was a USB.. I simply asked for an iPod cable as well.. Dealer bloke was happy to oblige

A work mate tried when he got his but was referred to the parts department.. So I guess it depends on the dealership.. Doesn’t hurt to ask though.. Oh and don’t forget to ask for the bottle opener if it’s missing..

        • Who's getting an iphone 4s on Friday? I know someone on here will be. I just know it. Can you test with the MDI and report back? Thanks

smashed my iphone 3S last week and have the shattered screen clinging together with contact. So I'm recently in the market and thinking may as well go 4S!

I'm keen to know if the new Bluetooth spec 4.0 is any better. Apparently it sap less power but I'm wondering if there will be any other positive surprises? iPhone 4S: Bluetooth 4.0, the quiet innovation | ZDNet

            • FYI - IOS 5 gets rid of the "this device is not supported" message when plugging in the iPhone, but doesn't change the default audio device issue when you plug in the phone and then bluetooth connects it stops playing.

              • Let bt connect and then plug it in, only takes a few seconds.

Happens to most bt devices as bt takes priority

                • Yep, that's exactly what I do - was just hoping that IOS 5 would introduce the concept of a default audio device so it would stay on the VW dock connector and not auto switch to BT. Maybe IOS 6......

                  • Well, more an issue with VWs head unit and bt

They could introduce a timer on the media connection that would solve it

                    • Hey guys - I've just noticed an issue that I've been able to replicate several times now with MDI and iOS5.

I have iOS5 on my iPhone 3GS. And here is what happens....

When the phone is plugged in via MDI, and is playing music, I press the Phone button on the RCD510 unit. I dial a number that's in my speed dial presets.

The other end starts ringing, but I hang up before they answer.

MDI audio does not resume - and requires the phone to be unplugged and plugged back in.

Now get this - if the call connects, and then is hung up - it resumes ok.

This wasn't an issue before with iOS4 on the iPhone (which makes me think maybe it's an iphone issue?). I want to do more testing to see if it's just a speed dial preset thing, or if it's any number from the phone book.

No difference between an iPhone 4 with IOS5 and an iPhone 4S with regards to the MDI. Bluetooth connects in exactly the same way and phonebook sync works.

Tried out the SIRI voice command stuff today in the car, works pretty well. Strange that the RNS510 shows "voicemail" when you are using SIRI. Would be great if I could initiate SIRI by using the steering wheel button but that is pushing it a bit I think!

Just tried it. Same problem on my iphone 3gs.

I have also noticed this, although for me it happened even if the call went through - once I had finished my call the MDI failed to continue playing music.

SIRI doesn't help me, she can't even disable Bluetooth!

Bit of a pain in the rear-end to be honest.

                            • When I start up with a USB thumbdrive plugged into my MDI, I can see the thumbdrive flashing but the RNS510 does not sense it, even after a while. If I unplug & replug it, it connects within a few seconds. Is there a solution to this or do people just unplug it everytime?
