I have a 16Gb SD card but unfortately it's very slow to load and the Mix option just jumps ahead about 10 songs. Minor issue and liveable.
The connection to the iphone, on the other hand, can be quite annoying. Yesterday it decided that it wouldn't recognise the device was connected, but that was after it had already been connected. Second time this has happened (but many months apart).

SD cards are rated for different read/write speeds (some could be as slow as 2mbps, while others are 30+ mbps). The number of songs/files in any given directory along with the speed of the card could have an impact. A Class 10 SDHC card should be good enough (Class 10 = 10mbps). The higher the class, though, the more expensive the card is. I have an 8GB Class 30 SDHC card (probably overkill) and performance is pretty good in the RNS 510.
At the bottom is the PDF and "mdi.bin.enc" file which police state is talking about.
Thanks Corey.
There's nothing specific in the PDF that I can make out (it's dated 2010), but the update itself is linked as KW22 2011 - so build week 22. It's definitely a later firmware than the KW22 2010 firmware listed on my-gti.com. I've just applied it to my MDI and it seems to work a treat.
I was looking for an MDI 3.5mm cable the other day on Ebay but the searches weren't very helpful - but that PDF you linked to had the product code, which made it much easier - VW Volkswagen MDI Adapter Cable USB RNS510/315 OEM | eBay

I went back to my dealer and asked for the cable as I was supposed to get it as standard, as well as the ipod cable I paid for. The nice lady gave me the one out of her car!

Yeah - I have a jack in the car, but since retrofitting the MDI it's become non-operational. I'd have to disconnect the MDI box from th head unit each time I wanted to use it otherwise.
this address some issues with iphone 4 such as incorrect song display on the unit at times...still pressing backwards on mix mode does not go the song just played but rather to a new random song hopefully we see a fix for this...
