Been driving my new GTI for a week now.. the car has been amazing! but the only thing that put me down is the ridiculous crackling noise from the car speakers (stock) whenever i play music from MDI (iphone). The funny thing is if i play music through AUX input, the crackling noise is barely there. So my question, is the problem lies on the speaker or on the MDI? Should i bother bring the car back to the dealer to get it fix?
Really appreciate your opinion.. thanks!
I will bet on it that the wiring is incorrect!!!! I have done about 50 MDI with this issue and rewired (I have now showed them how to do it!) due to the PD deparment not putting the coloured wires in the correct spot it still works but every time using MDI crackles only from the LH speaker

Pin 7 yellow wire
Pin 2 grey wire
Pin 1 green
Sorry i am newb in car electronic... If there's something wrong with the input voltages am i able to fix this myself? Been reading in a few forums and find a few ppl having same problem too..
Please actually look in the manual - I don't own your car so I can't tell you exactly, but there is a setting in the head unit for the "input voltage" of your iCrud. It's just a number or something, nothing technical. You just have to lower it or raise it so it matches your iCrud better.
I'm merging this thread with the MDI issues, where this has been discussed a few times before....

This was the problem with mine. The dealer fixed it up for me.
does anyone know if there is extension cable male to female for iphone? I know there are lots of them on ebay but I hear many don't work. Anyone who has it and tested it let me know please.
GTI carbon steel g, leather, mdi, A.C.C., park parallel assist & RVC, dynaudio, sunroof, R-tails, RNS510, 9WZ, LED reg
does anyone have problem with MDI recognising the USB? i have two MDi cables.
1 for iphone and other for USB stick.
occasionally i need to unplug it and plug it back in for the device to recognise.
BUT this morning, no matter how many times i plug the USB stick in, it just won't recognise it. any solutions? possibly need to format?
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned (I'm not reading 32 pages to see). But I've found that the iPod/iPhone MDI connection has issues if its plugged in before the Bluetooth sorts out the phone connection and downloads the phonebook.
If you wait until the bluetooth has done its bit before plugging in the iGear it all works fine.
As for Apple knocking - its overpriced and a little frustrating that you can't do certain stuff. BUT - my iPhone is the first bit of IT gear that I have just plugged in and its worked, it updates, it downloads, it sychronises - first time, everytime, no messing around, no 'accept update', no blue screen of death, no 'not compatible'. It just works the way it should with no additional imput from me - I will happily pay extra for that again.

the blue tooth is for the hands free phone operation and the mdi is for music
are you saying the stereo can play music from an iphone via a bluetooth connection? I havent tried it
Hate to disapoint you Maverick its a VW issue, not an Apple issue - the phone is happy to dump its data into a bluetooth device and play music at the same time (it does it quite happly in my other car), this seems to be the great VW's stereo/BT that can't handle too things at the same time.
Don't let your hatred cloud the fact that maybe VW isn't perfect.
And yes there are things about Apple that **** me to tears as well (not being able to use the 32Gb storage in my iPhone to move a simple file from work to home being the chief of them)!
It's worth doing the MDI firmware update if you haven't already.
Also, Bluetooth is one of those buggy technological things that may work with one device/ phone and not another. Can be pretty annoying when you change phones so best to test it first.
It helps to enable Bluetooth on the phone before you jump in the car so it's ready as well.

Hate to break to you but your beloved Apple is responsible for one of the buggiest bits of hardware on the market.
The MDI uses Apple's Specifications for the interface, there is no magic here and it works most of the time (except when Apple make changes to firmware which can break the interface and this applies to many devices that interface to the icrud/iturd in this manner). The MDI is separate to the head unit and has it's own processor and the same applies to the bluetooth. These are all separate systems that can do what they want when they want unlike some all in one headunits.
VW's various bluetooth implementations use the bluetooth specifications unlike Apple's bluetooth which is poorly implemented, buggy and requires restarting at times just to get it to connect.
So I think I can say with confidence that any fault about connecting to two devices at once lies with the non multitasking Apple ITurd(tm).

My dislike for Apple has nothing to do with calling it as it is.

If you keep buying their products you're just condoning their behaviour. Plenty of options out there that are superior in every way like Android OS phones.
