I checked that already GTIV6...wasn't it though. Even checked to make sure I had tightened the coffee grinder down...it's rock solid. I'm out of ideas now.

"milk is for babies...when you grow up you have to drink beer"

for real though, if you ever want to try something really good, try making a flat white with Oak chocolate milk instead or regular milk...

No because the path will be pointing to a directory below the current directory that may not exist as you rightly say below.

E.g. You load a playlist in the "Music" folder where your mp3 files are. And your playlist says the files are Music\song.mp3. Some players will then fail to play the music, as the player then tries to play Music\Music\song.mp3 - which doesn't exist.
          You are correct.

Other players are smart enough to understand and correct for the user putting the playlist in the wrong location...

Which is why I suggested the actions that I did to ktrianta, as just in case the MDI/RCD510 does not compensate for this, it'll definitely work by putting the playlists in the root.
Yes, that will certainly work, I know because my first playlist resided in the root directory of my USB-drive and the MP3s in a sub-directory.

I created multiple playlists in the sub-directory with the MP3s with WMP. I clicked on one MP3 which then started playing. I dragged and dropped several other MP3s into WMP then Save Now Playing List As... and pointed to the MP3 directory. I have two *.M3Us and one *.WPL

To play one of the playlists:
          Browse [-]
          UP [-]
<SEEK/TRACK> (keep pressing until you find the appropriate playlist)
          PLAY ALL [-]

          • Guys been enjoying the iPod touch feeding my mk 6 gti via mdi interface.works treat. Just one prob of late. Now and then jumped in the car and comes up with media initializing ? Looking at the iPod found it had drained into the red. Anyways listened to the radio, checked it later and the iPod was playing again. Ofcourse When got in the car next time got the media initialize business again. iPod drained to the red again.

Have had the car and iPod hooked up over the month never seen this problem before over that whole time. I charged my iPod in the house today and doest seem to have the same problem since.

Question does the mdi in the golf switch the iPod on and off with the car. Or does it just leave it on till next time you jump in the car. That might explain the iPod being drained into the red. It's bring charged while I'm driving around. Just think it's being drained because left on while i'm nt using the car and it's parked, locked.

For the thread nazi's I did honestly search but not really able to unearth anything of use.

I haven't tried my iPod in my golf yet, but in my work car it doesn't turn the iPod off when the engine is turned off.
I'd say you are correct - the iPod is staying on, which is why it's running flat.

In fact I've never seen a device which turns the ipod off in this manner (if one exists at all)

thanks karlo, appreciate the response. something was curious about. as wasnt sure if did turn off and on with the car or not. If using the car regularly probably not an issue. but if give it a day or so of no use I guess will soon run flat. also maybe not an issue for those that take the ipod in and out of the car with them. mine just stays in the car.

                • I left mine in overnight and it was drained.
Now I disconnect the iPod from the MDI cable when I get out of the car and connect it again when I get back in.

I have had a problem with mine since I got the car, where the MDI says either "No Media Available" or goes into the Media Initialising mode, but then comes up with "Device without Function".
The only way I can get the iPod to connect is turn the car off, lock the doors, unlock the doors and start the engine again.
It is really giving me the 5htis and will go back to the dealer shortly to get it checked out.

that would drive me up the wall as well ! especially plugging it in and out all the time ! plus having to go through the rigmarole you have to !

pity cant setup the ipod to switch off or go to sleep when theres no use or power. ie a power save mode or something.

let us know what the dealer has to say !

                    • Crackling Noise on Golf Mk6 Speaker

                      Hi all,

Been driving my new GTI for a week now.. the car has been amazing! but the only thing that put me down is the ridiculous crackling noise from the car speakers (stock) whenever i play music from MDI (iphone). The funny thing is if i play music through AUX input, the crackling noise is barely there. So my question, is the problem lies on the speaker or on the MDI? Should i bother bring the car back to the dealer to get it fix?

                      Really appreciate your opinion.. thanks!

Same with me, but it sounds like it is only 1 speaker (the tweeter on the left door). I am thinking of getting the dealer to change it under warranty.

exactly! mainly the noise comes from the left speaker!

I've got the same observed issue as you. Left hand side, prob tweeter. Seems to be worse with my 5th gen iPod than my new nano. Most of the time, the 5th gen doesn't even work with the MDI. My MDI was dealer fitted. I suspect it's an MDI or cable issue.

Have you RTFM with regards to input voltages for the MDI? That's where I would start.

It can't be a problem with the speaker if it only occurs when you plug in the ipod. The aux in, ipod and usb input all go the head unit. The head unit communicates with the speakers, if the speaker was faulty it would do it for all inputs so it comes back to the input from the ipod having a problem.
