Ahh that's great information there Rawcpoppa, thanks very much for your response. I feel more confident to go for it. Please excuse my ignorance, what are PR codes?

This gives a small description of what PR codes are:
By the way have you checked out the cost of used mechatronics vs an entire used gearbox and mechatronic unit?
It would appear the PR codes shown in etka for the lqv and mlf are related to emissions.
Chances are once the 2011 2.0 TDI dsg is from another golf in Australia it should work since it's likely they both carry the same emissions standard requirement.
Here is a PDF with a bunch of codes so you can understand what the different options lqv and mlf can come with.
My Mk7 90tsi has had constant issues with the DSG since purchase. Car has travelled 72000 km, is driven conservatively and has been regularly serviced by VW. My vehicle received a new clutch pack Oct 16 due to excessive noise during acceleration from a standing start, mostly on an incline. In Jan 17 the mechatronic unit failed which resulted in a 4WD nearly ploughing into the rear of my vehicle. In Jun 17, the DSG unit failed again and a new clutch pack was fitted. During test driving, the VW technician advised that there was still an issue with the DSG so an entire new gearbox is going to be installed. During the three years of ownership my Golf has spent between 4 to 6 weeks in a service centre being repaired each calendar year.
I have also had electrical problems: stop/start fail, tyre pressure warning fault, active cruise control fault, ABS fault, Nav System faults, Handbrake error and the list goes on. On three occasions the emergency braking system has activated without warning. One of these events resulted in me being rear ended and the at fault driver accusing me of brake testing him. It was a $7000 repair and a nightmare ensured between the insurance companies over liabilty.
My correspondence with VWA has mostly been ignored and in my experience the customer service support is appalling. Its my first and last VW and my advice is to look elsewhere. Good luck to you all.
My 2011 118TSI broke down on the freeway last month. The car completely lost drive while cruising at 100km. The car was towed to the 1st dealer which they diagnosed a new gearbox is needed and could not get VW HQ to assess the root cause without a full strip down of the gearbox for a detailed report which will cost $1290. I spoken to a service manager of another dealer and he eas extremely helpful so the car was towed to that dealer. The bottom line is this dealer was able to get VW HQ to cover the costs of a new gearbox and labour.

Nice work - this was done under goodwill clearly and the dealer did all the talking to VW for you ?
Thanks again for all the information dude. Just to let everyone know how I went. I have just driven home with the 2011 MFL stamped DSG from the 2.0 diesel Jetta (I think) and all seems to be working great. I did a DSG relearn with the modus and checked the fluid level and all seems great so far much smoother and now I have reverse bonus!
thanks again for your help. Cheers Josh.
There are a lot of posts here on the issues with the dsg which is fair if i had a problem i would post here 2
But just to put balance into the post i had a mark 6 with 147k with the dq250 serviced on time oil and filter ect not 1 issue
as i know how to drive it (like a manual) it is now in the hands of my daughter and will be her car for the next 4 or 5 years
Also the mark 6 has had not 1 issue of any kind at all in the 8+ years of ownership! every button, switch, light ect works as well as it did when new
my family have 2 polo,s and a golf all with the dq200 i taught them all how to drive the dsg properly no issues cars are 2,3 and 5 years old
I have just got a new dq 381 in my new golf and have to say its supurb so just putting the other side of the coin on the table not everyone has a issue with the dsg
I acknowledge that there are issues esp with the dq200 and some get boned but with the right driving style the dsg can be a vry good box
