Recent update: VW has extended the warranty on all DSG or S-tronic transmission for 10 years/100,000 miles, transferable to subsequent owners for 2006-2009 model years. This covers the R32, Jetta, GTI, Eos, and Audi TT and A3 and only applies to a "limited production range", whatever that means. It's unrelated to the recall mentioned below. To see if your past repair or current car is covered you have to call the VW loyalty center at 1-800-444-8982. A .pdf copy of the warranty extension for DSG transmission letter that was sent to owners is to the right.
The 10 year warranty in the USA has nothing to do with the government, but don't let me stop you from writing to your local member.

    • Do you guys get this as well or is it specific to my car or an issue of the APR2+ tune ?

Rarely when driving and giving a medium to hard press on the gas, the dsg shifts from first to second @ say 4000rpm and boom, for one second you have nothing and boom your in second and moving again..its a very nerving expreince for the passenger but also makes you look a bit like you cant drive.

      • Do you have a Golf R?

And do you actually hear a "Boom"?

Does it feel like your cars gearbox is slipping?

          • I have a GTI, no Boom but from 1st-2nd change there is half a second of no power where the DSG feels like its a sleep or calculating for way too long.

            • I think I have an issue with my dsg gearbox because it seems to behave normally and has no lag or power loss at any point!
. Infact I am starting to think that perhaps there was a software revision in the past month??????

              • Had the car booked into Barloworld today at 8am to sort out my diagnostic faults with my DSG, 6 hrs latter i'm told they will have to send all the data to Germany as VWA can't diagnose the problem ,so now i have to wait till they get back with an explanation for the Bad Codes ?

                • Unfortunately, for the first time yesterday I experienced the "slippage" others have mentioned and I'm not too happy about it! Given the right conditions/traffic, it could potentially cause an accident!! Is this becoming a common problem among R/GTI DSG owners? I have another issue with rough gear changes after taking corners in 2nd?? I think it's time to have it checked out by the dealer.

I haven't experienced 'slippage' but have had a couple of jerky changes when in D mode and coming out of a corner in 2nd gear. Taking it back to the dealer, would they flash the DSG box?

I don't recall having seen any posts by GTI owners having experienced this problem? It's possible that this particular issue is specific to the R (but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here). Chances are the DSG software will vary between GTI and R, even if the physical gearbox and mechatronic are the same.

Tinfoil Hat Theory - do you think there is any correlation between this and that the Oz Golf R press cars (Wheels mag is the latest example) all seem to be manuals?

                        • Nah... it's pretty rare. None reported on GTI. I've had it once on my R in the first few days. Several other R owning members have had it once too, again pretty early in the cars usage. REXman is the only one that I recall having it more than once (though I haven't looked back), and he mentioned to me the other night that he also hasn't experienced it recently.

Not sure be honest? Makes sense for it to be a software issue though...

                            I'll see what they say.....

                            • Well if there aren't any GTI owners with DSG problems, then it's sounding more and more like a software issue with the R.

She barely has 2,000km on her but imo these issues shouldn't be happening.

                              • Yeah I have had it 3 separate times all up so far.

Plus: a separate occurrence was a bit weird.. I punched it through a roundabout, and as I was going through (a lot of lateral grip was being used) it slipped gears and was banging on redline till about 5-10 meters out of the roundabout.

So 4 **** ups so far.

I'm more worried about the other public cars!
