  • Yeah! After 74 days of waiting, I picked up my car this evening. I loooooooooooooove my new Golf! And on top of pleasure of owning a Golf, the dealer delivered a good news on top - i.e. $850 off on our agreed sale price! The dealer told me that Golf and Tiguan are on end of financial year sale - free stamp duty, dealer delivery, and rego. But the sale conditions don't apply in my case. However, the dealer was kind enough to offer me a discount - or is it a too good be true deal? - this was what my jealous friend thinks... I will consider this as a good bonus.

When I arrived at the dealer, I couldn't find my car thinking "is my car parked outside in the rain?". The dealer welcomed me with a bottle of wine to congratulate me. After signing a fiance contract, he took me to the far end of the display room and showed me a car covered in a sparkly veil and pull the veil to reveal my car! Ahhhhh! My new golf! It was sad to let go of my Polo but I am sure my little Polo will find a new good owner.

As agreed, the dealer put a full tank of petrol and genuine Golf floor mats - and yes, I made sure I have the infamous bottle opener.

One thing I regret is that I didn't get the fog lights! Doh! I thought fog lights come only with the sport pack - but it's still a gorgeous car. I am smiling as writing this post.

One more thing to do to further "beautify" my car within my budget is to tint the windows. It's booked for this Friday by Perth's well known tint guy - TKO (Trent).

    Cheers,
    J

P.S. I will post photos I took before and after unveiling - but I will first need to learn to post pics.

I'm sure that the dealer can order in foglights and fit them as an accessory. If you really wanted them, you could get this done.

Mine arrived in Melbourne two weeks back (Thursday May 13). It cleared customs and moved to the Patricks compliancing/transport yard the following Monday (17th). I was looking at a few cars on the WW website around that time, and 3-5 days appears to be the norm.

Expect the car to be held for compliancing for a week or more before it can be dispatched to the dealer, however.

I thought tempe tyres only sold knockoff lensos? IIRC when I was looking into them they didn't have the correct offset and had to redrill them?

Thanks Adam. I figure the dealer is being conservative, which is ok. So best case is probably 1.5 weeks once landed to ariving at dealer. Gotta be patient!!

                  • But once it arrives at the dealer, it's still not ready to be picked up! The car is an absolute mess at this stage. Still largely wrapped in plastic, huge stickers covering the bonnet, blue foam parts on all the door edges, all the seats wrapped in plastic, spring rubbers in the suspension so the ride height is increased for shipping - the list goes on and on. They need to remove all these things, thoroughly clean the car, and do an extensive check before it can be considered "ready for delivery". Even in an absolute rush, you're a 4 solid hours of labour there (based on other reports here of people turning up at dealers and the car in "shipping state"). So as others have said. Plan on 3 weeks from time of your car to be delivered once landed.

As AdamD said, that gives it the 1 business week to clear customs, 1 business week to clear compliancing, and 1 week for it to be transported to the dealer and prepared by them. That way you won't end up here havinga whinge when 2 weeks have passed and you're upset because you haven't yet received delivery

Mine arrived with the dealer yesterday, and am picking up on Monday - sounds like they are fast-tracking it to get it out by the end of the month. Arrived on the docks midnight 13-May, which makes it about 12 working days.

Yes, I agree with you - I was one of skeptical buyers but after the buying experience last night, I do not certainly think that salespeople are evil beings.

I asked the dealer and he told me that it's not worth getting them if it is after factory add-on as the labour will cost more than the actual foglights.

Thanks Coreying....the dealer has been spot on so far and good at communciating with me each week - I haven't had to chase them at all! They have said 3 weeks to get the car to them and they only need 3 days...which i thought was a little short. I certainly don't want to rush the dealer - there are too many stories of cars not being ready....

Mine hit the docks a couple of days after yours it seems.

I don't expect my dealer to be in too much of a rush as usually it's by salesperson that pushes, and the guy that sold me my car has left so no one with any commission incentive
