Is the stock MK6 GTI quicker than 6.9s 0-100(DSG)??

Yeah - that's what both my MKV Golf GTI and my Polo GTI read at 100 just by doing the trip computer reset test.

No that's using the Performance Box (GPS based) so very accurate, same as motoring mags use. It measures exactly 0-100 not relying on reflexes to stop a watch as 100 passes.

I'm slightly confused. How does the "accelerator tap" work when you are already on the accelerator (using Launch Control) ? And isn't the DSG "takeoff delay" eliminated when using LC ? (that's what I'd expect, as you would use LC when wanting a "max attack" take off)

Yeah using LC, already on accelerator so no "tap" possible. No delay to speak of using LC, launches pretty hard.

Yeah - sorry, you can't use the tap when on the launch control. The tap (which engages the clutch for 2 seconds) is able to be used in every day driving

Actual Acceleration - GTI

Hi all,

My apologies for posting this on two fronts: a) I did search extensively through the forum to see if I could find a similar post, but couldn't really, and b) I'm somewhat of a noob =)

On that note, I know it's a hard question to answer as there are alot of factors to consider, but is the claimed 6.9s 0-100km/h fairly accurate? Anyone know what those stats are based on? 98 RON? Weight in the car? Base model with no options? (assume things like a sunroof add quite a bit of weight).

What's the best time you've been able to get in the stock version?

Not looking at an APR, and coming from a Suzuki Swift, 6.9s seems like I'm in a rocket ship, so it's plenty fast!! Just wondering what the little 2.0 is capable of.

I havent actually timed it or anything (i've been having 0-100 runs just for the feeling), but all i know is that it's way faster than 6.9 secs. Im guessing in between 5 ~ 6 secs

It has been posted before, but I'm not sure if it's in a thread specifically titled as such.
Firstly, 6.9 is not accurate! But in a good way. People can get the GTI to go from 0 to 100 in 6.5 and even better. Having the DSG version helps because it's far more consistent than the manual, and most people aren't Michael Schumacher (or you know... some race driver that still uses a traditional manual gearbox...).

With the APR Stage I and II you can get below 6 seconds quite easily, although launching quickly gets harder the more power you have - although they're still easy to drive 'normally'.

coreying: your coments don't surprise me. My gut feeling is that VW's stated power and performance figures on the 118TSI are also quite conservative. Now that I've passed 1000km of gentle-ish driving to run it in and given it full pelt a couple of times, it feels a lot closer to my old car (which would do 0-100 in ~ 6.8 secs) than I was expecting it to, given that it's the "non-performance" variant of the Golf.

AznGti: it's actually quite difficult to launch a front-wheel-drive car below 6 seconds (though perhaps the DSG's launch control helps?), and you'd be wanting closer to 200kW than 150kW to get near that speed.

Motor Magazine used a v-box to test a new GTI with DSG: 0-100 in 6.52, and 400m in 14.58. This was a car running 17" rims, with ACC and a few other options from memory. (It out-accelerated a manual Mazda3 MPS to 100km/h and over the quarter in that test, too.) In the December 2009 issue I believe.

As Corey says, mid 6s for a stocker is well and truly achievable. After driving a Swift, you won't know what hit you.

cameronp: Im a bit of a newb at cars, im still learning =D. but yeh, its just the feeling that i get, i thought the time would be approx about 5.8, 5.9 or 6.0 seconds. Thanks for the information though.

I've got a manual. Decent shifter, but for sure no F1 driver. Understood it will be a bit slower. Regardless, as you said, I'm moving from a Swift S (which is just the base 75kW engine)...so essentially I feel like I'm moving to a Veyron...which is getting delivered next week btw

and yes, I would give up both my wife and first born (whenever that comes) for a Veyron...I pray she doesn't read these forums
