I own a Performance Box which is the baby brother of the full house vBox used by car mags for their testing. I hope to do the Performance Box 0-100 testing of my GTi DSG this weekend and will post up the results.

I'll do my Datsun 1600 track car as well, just for fun.

      Tried it out this morning.

In Sport with traction on, times were in the 7.0 - 7.1 range. The slight hesitation off idle when you plant the throttle clearly costs a few tenths.

Using launch control (traction off), best times was a repeatable 6.7s with a fair bit of wheelspin off the line. Gut feel is there might be a 6.5 in there with a perfect run but 6.2 I reckon is stretching the friendship.

Clutch got a bit smelly after a few runs so I'll try again on a grippier surface.

Yeah - I wouldn't be doing too many multiple runs in a row!

I agree, there is no way a stock GTI would be doing 0 to 100 (accurately measured) in 6.2 - you'd need at least a Stage I ECU and good conditions for that.

        Thanks for the information!

Hey Doug, thanks for that! I was really curious. So about 6.7 is reasonable with launch control.. not too bad.

when you did it without launch control did you tap the pedal to engage the clutch before going for it?

          Cheers!

No, I need to play around with it. This is the first DSG car (first VW!) I have owned and only had it less than 2 weeks so still getting to know it. Didn't know about the tap and go approach so I'll try that. I assume left foot brake, right foor tap to avoid rolling and starting the clock ticking?

Multiple launch control runs definitely can't be good for the DSG/clutch.

                i think ive perfected it.

Put in S mode --> ESP Off --> Hold Brake (Rev to 2400rpm) --> Release brake --> Gradually accelerate to 4200 rpm --> then plant it.

When you left foot brake and hold down the accelerator, does the tacho pulse up to 3000rpm and then go no further? Launch control works, but the behaviour seems kind of strange to me.

It's not _realllllllly_ a launch control. Not like a Ferrari etc. The ESP is off, so it's not regulating throttle or brakes to maximise acceleration - you're having to do that manually. Hence why, as MasterKevin said above, you shouldn't rev to 3000, but a lower RPM (which will vary based on temp and tyres and road conditions), keep steady until a certain speed and then floor it.

The other method which works on the 6sp DSG is apparently the 'tap to engage'.

Yeah Doug - that's my understanding, but I never got to try it whilst I had a 6sp DSG.
The information comes from the 6spd DSG for dummies thread over at golfmkv.com

Isn't there platform sharing across the VAG range? If so, here's one way to solve the GTI's launch issues right here.

Best run today using launch control 6.4s. Took off from emergency lane on Eastlink which is nice and grippy so limited wheelspin, just hooked up and ran.

Bloody impressive result for 100% stock Mk6 GTi DSG. Did nothing special, revved to about 2800rpm then released the brake and held it flat. Couldn't be simpler.

Cools. So that to a true 100kph correct? Not as indicated on your speedo etc.

No that's using the Performance Box (GPS based) so very accurate, same as motoring mags use. It measures exactly 0-100 not relying on reflexes to stop a watch as 100 passes.

For the record, speedo indicates 107 at GPS 100km/h.
