  • 3 months. On my way home from work, heard a loud crack, looked around my windshield found a crack on the passenger side windshield.

    • Make sure you don't go to O'Briens for the windscreen repair. I got quotes from a few places and they were by far the most expensive. I guess they have the brand name to support them. Much cheaper to replace the whole windscreen with the local shop rather than them.

Depends how small the crack is though. if it's less than 2cm (iirc) then they can do a quick repair; i had one of these done and it was quick, professional and I honestly couldn't find the crack afterwards! Plus I had windscreen cover on my insurance so no hidden surprises for the wallet.

        • 5 months short of two years with no damage and I just had to kerb the left rear wheel last night

Was on my way to the gym and entering into the underground parking, after getting my ticket was too focused at keeping an eye out for a spot and scrubbed up against a kerb turning left.. The bastard was a foot high! Well not really but still..

Only myself to blame, I've entered that car park a million times by now.

Anyway on the lookout for a reasonably priced replacement Detroit now, if anyone knows of someone selling just the one (in unmarked condition) let me know.

Take it here. Wheel Solutions- Wheel Repaires Melbourne Australia - - Restoration

They repaired one of my 19" Talladegas after it kissed a gutter. At some point as I'm a fussy bastard I'll replace the rim, but until that day, the repair they did was flawless (ok, there is a tiny spec of dust or two in the paint, but I am quite fussy).

They had a Detroit rim in for repair and they machine the face of the rim with a lathe. I wouldn't can the rim just yet as the result from their work was perfect.

            Food for thought.

            • Hey thanks for that I'll look into it - what do they charge?

Edit: the damage is pretty horrid

              • +1 for Wheel Solutions. They did a really excellent job on an alloy I kerbed - longer scar than yours and the style of wheel meant a bad job would be obvious. Great to deal with, tons of prestige cars with careless owners there (think dirty black BMs, Audis, Mercs with multiply scarred expensive rims FFS).

Few years ago now so can't quite recall but was less than $200 - maybe $170?. Things may have changed but they weren't running card facilities back then so preferred cash or would invoice. Worth checking. Also, where they are is kind of down an alley so not that obvious.

                • I emailed them, I'll see what they say. If its under $200 might as well do it. But if it creeps towards $300 might as well hunt down another wheel for the same money and try offload mine for $150 or so if anyone takes it.

                  • Time to first damage

My Tig visited Costco on the weekend and was parked in the usual tactical corner. Unfortunately Mr or Mrs unknown decided to dent the front passenger door with a trolley I'm guessing

The dent is about 5cm x 5cm and doesn't appear to have scratched the paint. Can anyone recommend a repairer in Sydney or surrounds who they've had quality VW work or specialise in VW?

                    • Not good, ralp2dam...
My 1st visit to Costco was so fraught with traumatic door-ding possibilities, I will only go there now in my GF's mazda3...

I've used DKC Dent Removal three times now with good results. He used to look after the VW press cars.

                        • I scraped the top notch alloys really badly when I was parking. That was easily in the first three months. I was feeling so happy with the car at the time, thinking how easy it was to park! That'll teach me! We paid extra for the flasher wheels too! Silly, silly, silly!

                            • looks like someone with a ute tray has backed into my in my "secure" car park in the city.

Down to the metal, on the front QP - right where the wheel arch curves through it..

Looks expensive - anyone in melb recommend a good repairer? (definitely will need to be reshaped / replaced as its right on the curve)

                              • 3 quotes today for the repair. (in chronological order)

                                $600
                                $300
                                $2300.

Sigh. Anyone recommend someone in melb? :\
