Update. I called a random dealer and asked about the Metallic paint on the GTD. Told them I heard it was $700 and asked the question of whether it was meant to be $500. They asked to get back to me, and have done so, and confirmed that it will in fact be $500, just like the rest of the Golf range.

VWA has just 5 colour options on its GTI website

Surely there will be more colour options than these.

UK site has significantly larger color range

LOL... re-read all the other threads on colour availability in Australia, Canada and the USA

Just heard some depressing news from my dealer. Orders for the GTD can't be placed by VWA until after the launch in June. Given the usual lead times, October looks like the delivery month. The upside is they'll be MY11 production. Bummer!

Yeah - I think VW Australia are cracking down on dealers taking early orders so as to not be in a situation like they are now with the Golf R - customers having deposits paid for a model which they keep saying won't be available (3 door).

I'm told it is unlikely my options list will be on a stock model, unfortunately.

It may seems strange to not bring a car due to the 'impact to sales' of another car from the same brand - but the simple fact is in Australia, one of the biggest 'marketting' things that a product has is "We're the number 1 selling, so come see why". That is really important to draw in all the 'non-enthusiasts' who may not look at a product unless it was popular.
The GTI is the #1 selling 'sports car' under $45k in Australia (or whatever the level is atm), so if VW were to release the GTD and even the Scirocco, that could then give the #1 spot to another manufacturer.

The always seem worried about affecting the precious GTI sales.. still different cars for different requirements, the name if pretty similar but no different to GT vs GTI as mentioned before..

VW still get a sale..??

and there are enough Golf's around for that matter so may as well get more choice.

Also why would someone buy this over a GTI, are they cheaper or same price? The economy sounds great.
