  • VCDS / VAG-COM settings to make GTI needles dance upon ignition

Saw this on the golfgti.co.uk forums and thought ppl here with GTIs would be interested (actually not sure whether this can be done to regular Golfs as well)...

I thought they normally 'dance' (move side to side). I saw it in a vw video I think.

              GTI Needle Sweep.

Can MK6 GTI do needle sweep at startup like AUDIs? It looks cool.

Sure can... simple settings change via VAG COM or vcds. Note, only works on GTIs built in week 45 or later.

Nice, thanks mate. My car is built in week 1 2010. Still on a ship. Another question is where can I get it done in Sydney? I don't have that software and cable.

Come along to the March get-together in Leichhardt, ask in this thread if someone can bring a cable and software. If you can look up the instructions and have them printed ready to go, you'll make it even easier on everyone.
                    Nothing to see here...

Thanks, Manaz. I can not go for March's meeting as I have to work till 8:30pm on the day. Also I don't think I can get my car until the middle of March because it will arrive at Port KEMBLA on 25/02. I might need to wait for April's meeting.

Stupid question, how do you know which build week your car falls under? Doubt mines one... I picked mine up Nov 6th 09

Unfortunately I don't think there is any sure-fire way of figuring out exactly which build week a car was made unless the dealer had known the information in the first place. I've read somewhere that the date printed on seat belts was a good indicator but that sounds like complete BS to me.

A bit of a stretch but perhaps the dealer would be able to tell you? Highly doubt it, though.

Actually build week 45 in '09 would have been exactly when you picked up your GTI (Nov 5th to 11th) so the 'hack' won't work for your car.... but I'd much prefer that than having to wait 5/6 months !

Thanks. Agreed I've had the car for just over 3 months and its been awesome! Needle sweep would be cool though lol

Has anyone contacted their dealer to have this done? Will dealers even do this?
