  • Will be interesting to see if there are ANY discounts on the first batch of cars.. probably wouldn't matter for those who have to have one.

It's going to make me cringe slightly a little when i see one, but fairly sure it would end up costing a decent amount more than the GTI once you add a few options.

GTI is still ALOT of fun to drive...I don't mind. Makes you drive it harder to keep up with an R!!!

Yeah the GTI is actually plenty for the streets, especially after a retune and adding a few mods makes it more fun too. The R would be good on the track though.

I'm over pricing now, my order has a "comm" number so build week info shouldn't be too far away. Hoping they still meet Sep/Oct time frame

They had fark all stock available back in Jan when I placed my order cos I'd have taken a blue 3dr purely on impulse at the time lol.

This will soon be a common comment once a few are delivered.

Everytime a GTI owner sees one in the traffic somewhere its going to eat them up inside knowing they should have bought the R instead.

            • Yes and No.

I will most likely be one of those people but it certainly wont apply to everyone.

Certainly not those who bought an base GTI with 1 or 2 options.

Compared to myself who spent the equivalent (assumed of course) on a GTi that would have bought a base R.

Meh, don't really care and enjoying spending less for something 90% as good 90% of the time

The fact that there is still no word on pricing and most likely no corp disccont made if fairly easy to decide and wasn't trying to spend as much this time. Liking the lighter weight of the car vs the AWD benefits (which i don't need around town).

Yeh it will be like anything, you always want the next best thing but in reailty, most people don't have another 10-20k to spend everytime something new comes along.

With the rain we've been having in Melbourne lately, I wish I had the AWD already.

Aint that the truth, there is always something better and where do you stop. From the Golf R you can go to the next bracket of S3's & 135's..

Would come in handy in Melb, doesn't rain much in Brisbane so don't really care. It also would have been a bit too similar to the R32 without the street presence however both are awesome in their own rights.

                    Maybe next time Dave
