This is a good thing is it not? Being provided with the VIN number means that benjmin has been allocated a vehicle as promised! Congrats man
Cos I hadn't been contacted by my dealer yet LOL. I don't have a VIN yet, but my dealer is expecting their full allocation list in the next day or 2. June launch is looking good!

    • Well get onto them quick smart! Tell them that plenty of your 'friends' have their VIN numbers already!

Lol - even the "pro manual" posts make me want to go with the DSG again

              • I had a good chat with the dealer on Friday and asked him about all the cars on the road. They're not press cars but simply being driven by senior management before release. I asked him if these would naturally be put on as the first demo's (and not sold immediately due to KM), but he couldn't confirm either way at this stage. Basically he has no idea I imagine. My SP23 is going to its new owner mid next week and the GTI is due Wed/Thu .. I've been on them about allocating me an R but they cant seem to do it. Quite a few times i've been told that it'd mean placing an order and waiting. That's not an option for me so the GTI it is.

Yes its optioned heavily and may not represent the value against the R that it would have without the options, but it's a car I will enjoy thoroughly regardless. So excited - been waiting to get back into something with a lil poke for 2 years now! Stage II + wheels and coil overs should do me fine for the next 3-4 years.

Interesting reads WJ. Seems like most think that the R is worth the extra even if the GTI is as good 99% of the time. Most are basing it on the sportier looks alone, and AWD.

Congrats elisiX, I know the decision has been eating you up for ages but it's not an easy one. However when you have a GTI waiting in your desired spec vs starting a long wait from scratch the decision gets easier. It doesn't seem like anyone who has pre-ordered will get their exact spec other than those after a basic combo, makes me think that they were all pre-spec'd and none of the factory orders actually 'placed'.

Anyway you can always get one next time once all the hype has died down, when you know what the prices are & knowing you can get corporate/considerable discounts etc.

Also the same options on an R would push the price up 10-15k.

This has seemed to be the case for a long time. This dealer pre-order thing is bogus. It simply allows you early pick of the VGA ordered cars from the initial batch, NOT to your own build.

Im in exactly the same boat. My MPS will be sold in the next 10 days or so and my GTI will be delivered on the 26th. Cant be bothered stuffing around with the uncertainties around the R. Ive ordered a Milltek zorst and VWR filter and will get an APR tune and some different wheels, should keep me happy for 2-3 years.

                            • KW Street Comfort

The KW Street Comfort Coilover is now available for the Mark 6 Golf range. KW coilovers are great and offer superb NVH levels and ride - no issues with tug'n'release or spring bind on the KW coilovers.

Something for propospective Golf R owners that have to settle for 19" wheels with no Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC). The Golf R being too tough riding was a concern for me, esp with 20% stiffer springs than the MK6 GTI.

                              __________________________________________________ _________________________________

For those that are waiting for a HPA KW SHS kit to be released for the Mark 6 Golf - KW have released a KW Street Comfort Coilover suspension kit.

Haven't sampled this kit, but they look similar to the HPA KW SHS for the MKV Golf.

If I didn't have Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) optioned on my new MK6 GTI - the KW Street Comfort Coilover would be the pick over other coilovers such as KW Variants 1-3, Sachs Coilovers, Tein Euro or Bilstein PSS/H&R - esp being a Sydney sider having to endure crap roadways.

See link for KW Street Comfort c/overs:

Yeah its a load of crap, but VWA don't endorse it so what can you do?

There is only one person in this thread stating they've been given an allocation. I haven't got anything yet and I suspect that there isn't anything close to what I want. And that is after giving my dealer a choice of 3 colours and a couple extra options which I'd take if I had to.

I'd say I'll have 2 choices. Spec which doesn't come close to what I want or a 6mth+ wait. Neither of which I'll be happy with but I'm getting less optimistic of a favourable outcome.
