  • All valid points Dave, obviously everyone has different requirements. There hasnt been a 5dr vs 3dr conversation for about 100 pages so thought you were getting bored.

I woudlnt mind a sunroof but wasn't going to tick everybox and had to stop somewhere, otherwise may as well get a better car. Just being a tightar$e i guess, but the RVC is a cool feature and lets you reverse in confidence, esp at night.

Yeh this thread is driving me nuts. So many pages with so little result hehe

Yeh it gets to a point where the cost of the car starts to get a bit silly for what it is. I don't have any issues reversing in the MK5 or MK6's I've driven, but the camera/radar/nightvision type techs are cool gadgets.

        • DSG is worth it and then some. Although everyone will have a different preference based on thier driving style, conditions and environment.

Just a couple thoughts on the R vs GTI debate..

As you will all know full well, I'd been tossing up the idea of canceling my GTI order and waiting for an R. Having owned some relatively high performance cars in the past (TT Quattro, HSV Coupe), naturally the R appeals more on paper. Well yesterday I picked up my GTI. My options were to take an almost fully loaded GTI vs a stocker R. Did I make the right move? Well I wont know for sure without driving the R - but what I can say at this early stage is that the GTI is extremely capable.

The roads were a little damp and at some times completely wet last night, and the R's AWD would have come in handy no doubt. However for me, for day to day driving in traffic and the odd squirt up inside lane the GTI has bucket loads of power on tap. In saying that, I have plans to move to an APR Stage 1 setup as soon as possible, which will most likely be followed by Stage II. That should make for some interesting times - even if getting the necessary grip might be an issue.

A massive + for the GTI IMO, the Carbon Steel specific color and red highlights on the grill - looks sensational in person.

          • Being the 1st in the queue at my dealer, this morning I got offered my choice of 1 of the 6 Rs (out of 6) available in a few weeks. 1 x DSG (5dr) and 1 x Manual (3dr) to be kept by the dealer for demos .... so only 4 will be sold to customers.

            I had a choice of 2 x 3dr M and 4 x 5dr DSG (2 with leather and options and 2 x base) . Since I wanted a silver 5dr M with options yet to be determined I turned them down......

So if anybody (and there was a few behind me) picks up a 5dr R from Austral, you will have a choice of 1 Grey (base spec), 1 x Blue (base spec), 1 x Blue (leather & options) 1 x Black (leather & options) ... say thank you ......

If you order now, you'll have your R in October and if you wait till the mid June launch you will have it in December/January ....

I suspect I'll have a January one ...... ...... as I want to drive it and decide on price and options.

Yeah - I'd like to drive one too!

              • Suspect it will also be Dec/Jan for me as well, as i'm not going to order until RRP is released properly.
I also intend to get similar discount levels as my GTI quote if i order after the official launch, rather than take a non-discounted, no options, early delivery, without even driving it.

Yeah no point handing over a deposit as you've lost all bargaining power and won't even get the spec you want anyway (most likely).

                  • Is there a spec sheet with what equipments standard/optional? I thought leather would've been std as it was on the R32

They released the final spec of the car for Australia over a month ago now? Leather is not standard. However it is a blessing for most customers who do not want leather, as people are guessing/hoping that the RRP of the car should be a good 3 - 5K cheaper then the R32 due to having no leather as standard and a smaller engine.

We will find out next month if our guessing was correct!!!

                      • Just to clarify - they haven't released the final spec. They released a "spec summary". As soon as the final "complete" specification is available (like what you'd see in a brochure), I'm sure it will be posted here. But the spec summary does indicate that leather is not included, as Pauly has mentioned.

I know you will have people that will justify it in the opposite direction and say they are a must and once you have them you never go back... which may well be true! But not for $2000.
Which car brands offer Bi-Xenons with cornering function for under $2000?

BMW offer them for around $3500 on the 3 series.
AUDI offer them for around $3000 on the A3's (they have projector lights standard)
Skoda offer them for around $2000 (they have projector lights standard) - not sure if they're bi-xenon though, the old ones were just xenon for low beam.
Mazda don't offer them on the 3 but only on the MPS and only when you buy the luxury pack.

                          • New Golf R APR Ecu Tune

I was checking the APR website to see if they had information on the Polo 1.2TSI ECU tune and I found this:

APR - High Performance Development for Audi, VW and Porsche Vehicles.

                            239KW is a decent number!

It was mentioned a few days ago in here that the Australian APR site was updated with the "Golf R Stage I ECU Update". However, it has been mentioned heaps of times from very early in this thread that the tune will produce ~240kw/435NM as it's the identical engine, and ecu, and thus Stage I update, as the Audi S3 and TT-S.

Since our Golf R's will be "de-tuned" to 188kw and 330NM to protect the Audi S3 market, this APR Stage I ECU should basically be factored into the plan for every serious R owner!

                              • Decking Out A New Golf R
Hi all! I’ve only been on the forum for a few months, but I thought I would ask you all for a hand in my decision of how to fit out a MKVI golf I’m hopefully about to order. Any suggestions, hints etc would be more than welcome. In an effort to reduce some tax on some cash I have, I’m intending to lease the car, and as a result the more “factory” options I select now, the more I will be able to save on. But if something better is available aftermarket, than I’m prepared to fork out my own cash as I intend to buy the car outright at the end of the lease. Currently I’m located in Melbourne but intend to take the car for a spine up the Hume to Sydney soon after delivery if that helps at all.

                                Currently I’m looking at ordering the following;

                                Type: MkVI Golf R
Transmission: DSG (never owned an auto so
Colour: White (always liked the R32 blue so not 100% confirmed)
                                Rims: Black 19” Talladega
                                Options
                                o Sunroof
                                o RNS510 with Dynaudio
                                o MDI
                                o Rear View Camera
                                o Adaptive Chassis Control
                                o Vienna Leather Appointed Upholstery
                                o Electrically Adjustable Drivers Seat
Bluetooth: After reading the numerous posts on this topic I am leaning towards the Skoda Kit. I think Volkspower install them in Melbourne.
Window Tint: Dark as possible as I’m quiet photophobic. Unfortunately back windows come tinted as standard so some research to get all the windows matching will be required. Undecided where yet.
Paint Protection: Once again undecided. Definitely needed though as this car will be outside and near the beach most of its life.
Number Plates: I was looking at getting Victorian Signature Plates with 2 letters and one number. One of the reasons behind the delay in ordering the R is to see if the R comes with the much maligned black front number plate holder.
Is there anything I have forgotten about or should be thinking about? I have never purchased a new car, so if you have any advice it would be very welcome.

                                Cheers

                                Xrayshaggy
United Grey R: All the accessories (leather, not Recaro's though), S2P paddles, Kuftech DVD in motion. Carbon grill, mirrors and diffuser awaiting to be fitted.
